In the Windows 10 operating system, desktop files are stored by default"C: Users Your username for Desktop"directory. Here"Your username"is the username you used to log in to Windows.
If your desktop files aren't stored on drive C, it's possible that you made a change to move the desktop folder to a different disk. To view or change the location of your desktop files, you can follow these steps:
1.Right-click on the desktop and select Properties.
2.In the pop-up window, select the Locations tab.
3.In the "Desktop" section, click on the "Change" button.
4.In the popping up "Change Folder Location" window, select a disk and enter the folder name, then click "OK".
If you want to replace it with a different disk, you can follow these steps:
Method 1:
1.Create a new desktop folder: Create a new folder named "desktop" on a non-system disk, such as the D drive.
2.Open desktop properties: Right-click on the desktop and select Properties.
3.To modify the desktop position: Switch to the "Position" tab in the properties window and click the "Move" button.
4.Select a new folder path: Browse to the "Desktop" folder you created on drive D or another disk, select it as the new storage location, and click "Select Folder".
5.Confirm the change: Under the location of the desktop properties, click [Apply], [Yes], [OK], and then complete the setting of the desktop storage location.
Method 2:
1.Right-click on the This PC icon on your Windows 10 desktop and select Properties.
2.In the window that opens, select "Advanced System Settings".
3.On the Advanced tab of the System Properties window, click the Environment Variables button.
4.In the "User Variables" section, find the variable named "UserProfile" and click the "Edit" button.
5.In the Edit User Variables window, locate the Variable Value field and enter the new path you want to move the desktop file to, after the original path. For example, you can change the path to a folder on drive D, for example, d:ewdesktop.
6.Click the OK button to close all windows.
7.Once the changes are complete, a new desktop folder is created in the new location, and the files and folders on the desktop are moved to that location. Note that changing the desktop file location may cause the shortcuts on some desktops to become invalid, as they may still point to the old location. You'll need to manually update these shortcuts to point to the new location.
With the above operations, you can successfully store the desktop files of Win10 on other disks, which not only saves the space of the C drive, but also makes the desktop files more secure in case of system problems.
Make sure to back up your important files before changing the folder location in case of data loss due to improper operation.
