Dr. Wen Yan of the 13th batch of Chinese medical teams in PNG took a group photo of Ms. Shiela after completing dialysis**.
On January 30, the reporter learned from the 13 batches of Chinese medical teams aiding Papua New Guinea (hereinafter referred to as "PNG") that the medical team recently completed the first case of hemodialysis in the local area**, and made the Port Moresby General Hospital in the local capital (hereinafter referred to as the Port Moresby General Hospital) have the comprehensive conditions to carry out hemodialysis**.
I've really never felt so relaxed like I've ever felt like I am! "The patient, Ms. Shiela, has been living in Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, for a long time, and was diagnosed with uremia one year ago.
As the only public hospital in Port Moresby, Port Moore General Hospital is unable to perform haemodialysis due to a lack of equipment and technology**. The patient had to choose to barely maintain dialysis in a private outpatient clinic with very limited conditions**. This not only requires the cost of high **, but also aggravates the condition due to the inability to get timely and effective dialysis**.
Not long ago, the patient was admitted to the Department of Nephrology of the Port of Mozambique General Hospital** due to worsening pain in multiple joints throughout the body due to uremia and inability to walk. As she had not been on dialysis for 2 weeks outside the hospital**, she was admitted to the hospital with significant symptoms of edema, tiredness and shortness of breath.
Fortunately, just three months ago, Wen Yan, deputy chief physician of the Department of Nephrology, the 13th batch of Chinese medical teams to Papua New Guinea, arrived at the Mogang General Hospital and began to actively promote the preparation for the construction of the hemodialysis room of the hospital. At the beginning of this year, after the preliminary design, decoration, dialysis machine commissioning and medical staff training, the hemodialysis unit of the Mogang General Hospital was equipped to carry out dialysis.
After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Wen decided to include Ms. Shiela as the first patient to undergo haemodialysis at the Port Moz General Hospital.
On the morning of January 22, under the supervision of Dr. Man, Ms. Shiela successfully completed hemodialysis for 4 hours in the hemodialysis room of the Mogang General Hospital, which indicates that the Mogang General Hospital has the comprehensive conditions to carry out hemodialysis**, which is a great technical improvement for the Department of Nephrology, the Mokharan General Hospital and the entire public healthcare system in PNG.
Combined with the individualized comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan formulated by Dr. Wen, the patient's symptoms such as edema, cardiac involvement and shortness of breath were quickly alleviated. Not only that, but the joint pain that had been bothering Ms. Shiela for 9 months was completely relieved.
It is understood that the incidence of chronic kidney disease in PNG is extremely high, but the limitations of equipment and technology have led to hemodialysis** not being carried out in public hospitals, and a large number of patients with chronic kidney disease and uremia cannot be treated in a timely and effective manner**, and eventually lose their lives due to aggravation of the disease.
In the future, we will continue to train the medical staff of the dialysis center of the hospital in theory and operational techniques, and actively strengthen the popularization of science education for patients and assist them in establishing a patient follow-up mechanism. Dr. Wen said that he hopes to bring China's advanced technology and concepts to PNG and truly benefit local patients.
