In order to solve this mystery, I went deep into several famous automobile markets in Beijing to conduct field research. I interviewed a number of consumers and frontline salespeople to try to understand why the market in January 2024 was so hot at the grassroots level.

Of course, we must not forget that the consumer market before the Spring Festival is always prosperous because consumers have relatively ample holidays, income increases, and merchant discounts. But this year, this kind of hot performance is particularly obvious, because whether it is an independent brand or a joint venture brand, whether it is a new energy vehicle or a fuel vehicle, it has achieved significant sales results. In particular, BYD, Geely, Chery, Great Wall and many other leading brands have seen their sales stable and grow.

When I was interviewing at the BYD Ocean Beijing Chehao 4S store in Chaoyang District, Beijing, I even saw a customer signing a car purchase contract on the spot. In the face of consumers who come for consultation or regular maintenance, the store staff are busy but happy to work. They told me that although the number of self-owned brand models has decreased, more people have begun to pay more attention to factors such as product quality, brand trust and cost performance, so they choose to buy their own brand vehicles with a strong base. The Japanese brand cars, which have been hit before, have once again shown their tenacious survivability at this special moment as the object of choice of experienced and loyal consumers.

At the GAC Toyota 4S store in Beijing's Chaoyang District, the store is still bustling even during business hours. Although the overall sales of Japanese cars in the market have declined, the attention and sales of individual models, such as GAC Toyota Sena, have increased. I remember that at the beginning of the launch, consumers needed to pay an additional fee to order the Sena, and now the cash discount of this car has reached about 20,000 yuan, plus the preferential amount of replacement subsidies and loan interest discounts, the total preferential amount is 3More than 50,000 RMB. There are a large number of existing cars available for sale in the store, and the sales momentum of this car can be described as hot.
