Zhang Chenkai, Executive Director of CIC Consulting, believes that the big health industry will become one of the largest segments of the silver economy. According to the Blue Book of China's Nutrition and Health Food Industry, as of 2022, the scale of China's nutrition and health food industry will reach 588.5 billion yuan, and it is expected to exceed 800 billion yuan in 2027. The new elderly group has different attitudes towards nutritious and healthy foods, has a stronger ability to identify various health products**, and has a more scientific attitude towards health preservation. With the development of the health industry, the health literacy level of Chinese residents continues to improve, and there is a gap between the expectation of their own health status and the actual situation, resulting in a demand for nutritional supplements and healthy foods.

According to the statistics of the Blue Book, from November 2022 to October 2023, 4 of the top five nutritious and healthy foods sold on Tmall are functional foods, and emerging brands are listed.

The Blue Book also found that the consumption of nutritional and health food shows a trend of younger people, daily maintenance, and diversified demand segmentation. The 36-40-year-old and 20-25-year-old groups have increased their attention to health, and the acceptance of online purchase of nutritional and health products has increased.
