In 1979, as a vice premier, he paid a nine-day official visit to the United States at the kind invitation of Carter. It is worth mentioning that accompanied by a group of outstanding leaders in our country, they reached a consensus with the United States on a number of cooperation agreements, especially in the fields of science and technology, aviation and other fields, and made important contributions to the take-off of China's economy.
Huang Hua, who accompanied Grandpa Deng to the United States, was the fifth minister of China. What are some of the lesser-known stories about him? What about his life after retirement?
Let's do it.
Huang Hua, born in Hebei Province in 1913, graduated from Yenching University and served as the president of the student union. In that period when Japan launched the 918 Incident, Northeast China fell, and the wind was surging, Huang Hua also devoted himself to denouncing Japan's aggression.
In 1935, as the president of the student union of Yenching University, Huang Hua participated in the famous "129" patriotic movement and embarked on the revolutionary road.
Huang Hua, a staunch Communist, secretly joined our party as early as 1936. Since then, under the guidance of our party, he has actively participated in the progressive movement. That year, he came from Beiping to Yan'an, the holy land of the revolution.
There, he witnessed with his own eyes the determination of our party to lead the whole nation in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the heroic spirit of the Red Army in northern Shaanxi. These experiences, which cannot be seen in the big city, deeply touched Huang Hua.
From then on, he decided to stay in Yan'an, while studying, while carrying out anti-Japanese propaganda, and finally followed our party to win the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan. In 1949, as an intellectual, Huang Hua participated in the reception of the Kuomintang and entered our country to focus on diplomatic work.
It is worth mentioning that in the negotiation of the "Korean Armistice Agreement" in 1953, Huang Hua also contributed his own strength and made important contributions to the victory of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.
Ambassador Huang Hua has a long history of diplomatic service, having served as ambassadors to Ghana, Egypt and Canada. On November 15, 1971, the United Nations adopted Resolution 2758, restoring our country's rightful seat, and Huang Hua was present and witnessed this historic moment.
After China's return to the United Nations, Ambassador Huang Hua was appointed as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations and the Security Council, and remained at the United Nations to exercise his legitimate rights on behalf of China at relevant meetings.
In 1976, due to Minister Qiao Guanhua's quarantine review and suspension, Huang Hua, who was 63 years old at the time, took over the position of the fifth minister. During his tenure as minister, Huang Hua made great contributions to China's diplomatic undertakings, including signing the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the People's Republic of China and Japan with Japan and presiding over negotiations on the establishment of diplomatic relations with the United States, laying a solid foundation for the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.
In 1979, the old Huang Hua opened a historical chapter of his visit to the United States with Grandpa Deng. This is an extremely important historical moment not only for Huang Hua himself, but also for our entire country.
Prior to this, China and the United States had not established diplomatic relations for various reasons, and there were even frictions during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. However, thanks to the unremitting efforts of Huang Hua and other diplomats, China and the United States finally established diplomatic relations, ending years of confrontation.
Grandpa Deng's visit to the United States has opened the door to cooperation between the two sides in many fields, and this is undoubtedly a win-win situation for the two countries.
In 1982, Huang Hua stepped down from the post of foreign minister and joined the vice chairman of the National People's Congress and other important positions. Until his later years, he still served as a member of the Standing Committee of the 13th Central Advisory Committee, and consistently contributed to the diplomatic cause of the motherland.
Until 2010, Huang Hua died of illness at the age of 97.
