In 1664, John Evelyn's Chronicle of the Forests was published, the first printed book of the Royal Society and the world's first comprehensive study of trees.

Published in honour of John Evelyn's work, the New Forest is inspired by John Evelyn in both style and thought, reflecting much of the content and structure of the original. Interweaving science, art, and history, the book details modern methods of planting and managing forests and orchards, many of which were unknown in 17th-century England. The book also features more than 200 pen drawings that illustrate the diversity of British woodlands.

According to the facts, one of the authors of this book, Gabriel Hermelu, is a writer, tree photographer and forest scientist. In the 90s of the 20th century, he designed a unique 30-hectare woodland in Oxfordshire and planted thousands of trees himself. Another author, Sarah Simon Bolt, is a writer, artist, broadcaster, and anatomist who works as an anatomy instructor at the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford, and has also been involved in the production of many radio and television programs on art, science, and culture, and we want to encourage people to embrace and revitalize wood culture: planting trees, marveling at the beauty and richness of woodlands, learning about the art and science of forestry, and taking pride in using timber provided by well-managed forests. The author of the book said.
