At the foot of the magnificent Himalayas, on the edge of Tibet, there is an outpost at an altitude of 5,318 meters called Chagora. This Spring Festival, we are fortunate to go deep into this high mountain and witness the stories of the warriors who guard the border.
After a bumpy drive, we finally arrived at the Chagora outpost. As soon as the car door opened, the wind of the plateau blew in your face, as if to tell the steepness and magnificence of this land.
Chagola, the Tibetan word for "land of flowers", is actually deserted and covered with snow all year round, making it a veritable "forbidden area for life". Officers and soldiers have been guarding here for many years, accompanied by snow-capped mountains and loneliness.
Li Cundong, an officer and soldier here, took the initiative to apply for the Chagola outpost in 2018, and it has been six years since then. This year, he has just been promoted to first sergeant in the army. When asked if he was willing to leave, Li Cundong was emotionally excited and indescribable.
The harsh conditions of the plateau are unforgettable, but Li Cundong is willing to stay here. He said that this place is like his home, it is the place where he fights, and it is full of too much reluctance and attachment.
This is the most simple and sincere emotion of the border guards. The oxygen content in the air in Chagora is only 35% of that in the interior, and the average annual temperature is maintained at more than minus 10 degrees Celsius all year round. Since its establishment in 1962, generation after generation of officers and men have relied on the belief that "man will conquer heaven," worked hard, overcame all kinds of difficulties, and laid a foundation in this "forbidden area of life."
Although these warriors guarding the border are in a harsh environment, they have written a magnificent chapter of border defense with perseverance and responsibility, and have built a solid barrier for the security and stability of the motherland. They are the iron wall on the border line, the guardians of the people, and the firmest faith in the hearts of the people.
