Kunpeng Project
Capital has no borders, but capitalists have nationality. But for a long time, there have always been some people who can't recognize the reality, that is, they grew up eating Chinese food, but they always follow outsiders to smash China's pot.
If TSMC built a factory in the United States because of the coercion of the United States, TSMC has no choice. But what is the purpose of TSMC's large-scale construction of factories in Japan?
Is there a large demand for mobile phone manufacturing in Japan? The United States coerced TSMC to build a factory in the United States in order to return to the manufacturing industry, so TSMC built a factory in Japan for Chinese manufacturers?
TSMC bets in Japan
I thought that TSMC's investment in the United States would allow TSMC to see the face of the West clearly, and finally change its mind. However, what I didn't expect was that TSMC actually turned around and bet in Japan. Would you rather choose Japan than invest in the mainland?
Recently, according to relevant reports, TSMC, as a global semiconductor manufacturing leader, has once again fallen behind. And the place where it landed actually chose Japan, not the United States, not the mainland. And this is already TSMC's second factory in Japan.
It can be said that TSMC is really considerate of Western countries. In the development of semiconductors in the past, it can be said that Chinese mainland has been very helpful to them. Not only does it provide preferential trade, but it also has a lot of state support.
Many people may have a question, that is, in the development of industrialization, why our other industries have developed, but semiconductor companies have not developed.
Paradoxically, we are one of the world's largest importers of semiconductors. And this import scale can even be compared with our ** import volume, it can be said that this scale is very surprising.
In fact, this is mainly because in the past development, we will first finished products and then slowly form an industrial chain agglomeration effect, and then slowly produce domestic goods. That is, to train people through the introduction of foreign capital first, and then gradually localize.
And why is it slow when it comes to semiconductors? In fact, this is mainly because, in the field of semiconductors. Most of the leading enterprises are Taiwan-funded enterprises on the other side of the strait, so we don't have such strict requirements in many aspects.
Otherwise, you will find that Samsung, which is also a semiconductor manufacturer, has invested in building factories in China, but TSMC does not have such a large scale.
And in the years when China's mobile phone industry exploded, both Huawei and other mobile phone manufacturers gave more cutting-edge chip demand to TSMC, which also prompted TSMC to surpass Samsung and Intel in cutting-edge chip manufacturing. It can be said that TSMC today is fed by the demand of the Chinese market.
Only when we have rapidly improved localization in recent years, TSMC has begun to lay out in Nanjing, and it is also a mature factory based on 28nm. Is TSMC really helping us? In fact, it is not, but it is just competing for the market with our factory, after all, we can also make mature technology, what we need is cutting-edge technology.
The second factory built by TSMC in Japan will mainly produce chips with 6nm, 7nm and 40nm processes in the future, which can be said that TSMC did not expect it at all. Moreover, will the chips produced by TSMC be sold to the United States and Japan for their own use?
I don't think this is very likely, because everyone knows that the demand for high-end chips is greater. What's more, Japan's current manufacturing industry, whether it is the automobile industry or the mobile phone industry, is shrinking in Japan.
Therefore, TSMC's bet in Japan is on the one hand to circumvent US sanctions, and on the other hand, it is to protect the Chinese market, because we know that Japan and we are both in the RECP agreement, so there are not many obstacles in terms of future tariffs.
So TSMC not only wants to eat our food, but also wants to eat Western food, but the difference is that TSMC is smashing China's pot, but TSMC does not dare to show the slightest dissatisfaction with the harvest of the United States. But TSMC, if you want to dance on a few eggs, is it really feasible?
Is TSMC's future worrying?
If the past was the era of transnational capital and technology, then the future will be a confrontation between countries, without the endorsement of the state, enterprises and capital will be gradually diluted.
You're not on the table on the menu. The United States has already made its attitude clear, and this is still said to various countries around the world, not to mention a small TSMC?
Besides, in the face of ***, is it really so important to have leading technology and strong capital?
Today, TSMC relies on its technological advantages and is still dancing between China and the United States, which can be said to be our tolerance for TSMC.
If you look at TSMC's investment in the United States, you will find that the United States really wants to harvest it. On the one hand, TSMC was tricked into building factories in the United States, and then used various rules to delay the payment of promised subsidies, while on the other hand, the United States is vigorously supporting the development of its own semiconductor enterprises.
In the face of the recent financial constraints of the US authorities, Biden resolutely chose to allocate $1.5 billion to GLOBALFOUNDRIES to fund its factory construction, and will provide nearly $12.5 billion in support in the future.
It can be said that this is very strong, and people haven't even built a factory yet, but what about TSMC?
Tens of billions of dollars have been invested in the United States, and I thought that the United States would provide them with subsidies, but I didn't expect it to be delayed again and again, and TSMC even relocated workers from Taiwan Island to the United States for the development of American factories, which can be said to have done its best.
But what do you get in return? And in China, what does TSMC do? I don't think anyone has heard of what TSMC has done. And it is still competing with us for a mature market, so it can only be said that TSMC has really calculated the benefits to the maximum.
But in today's world, can no country really survive by relying on big business? What about the former Toshiba and the French Alstom, haven't they all been cleaned up in the end?
What's more, think about TSMC, which doesn't rely on either side.
Therefore, TSMC is not so much playing profit maximization, but rather that TSMC is challenging the bottom line of China and the United States. What he looks at is other people's subsidies, and what people look at is his capital.
And for us, it is natural to see everything clearly, who is on the side of the state. Who is charging in the face of US sanctions, and who is digging into the wall.
So no matter what, we all need to make this piece ourselves, prove ourselves with strength, and at the same time, only by catching up technologically, and even leading, we will not be so passive. As for TSMC, then let's wish him good luck.
