The Tang Dynasty 78 The last emperor of the Tang Dynasty

Mondo History Updated on 2024-03-02

Emperor Li Ji of the Tang Dynasty (892 908) was the ninth son of Li Ye of Zhaozong of the Tang Dynasty and the last emperor of the Tang Dynasty. In 904, after Zhaozong was killed, Jiang Xuanhui falsely passed on the edict to support the 13-year-old Li Ji to ascend the throne.

Although Li Ji became the emperor, he did not have the face of the emperor at all, and he reigned for 4 years, living in the shadow of Zhu Quanzhong, thinking about how the mother and son would survive all day long.

The reality is brutal. In December 905, the second year of his accession to the throne, Zhu Quanzhong executed Emperor Wai's mother and his executioner Jiang Xuanhui under the pretext that the privy council had an affair with the empress dowager He. Although Jiang Xuanhui, Liu Can, and Zhang Tingfan made contributions to Zhu Quanzhong, they all ended up being cooked by rabbits and dogs, and some were still divided and burned by five horses, and their deaths were miserable.

Such an emperor was really boring, and he barely held out for another two years, and by March 907, Zhu Quanzhong could not wait. Forcing Li Ji to "concede" the throne, Zhu Quanzhong's dream came true and built the Great Liang State, known as the Later Liang in history. But Zhu Quanzhong also did not have the ability to dominate the world, thus opening the chaotic era of "Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms".

Since then, the Tang Dynasty, which has existed for 289 years, has died.

After Emperor Tang Ai's "Zen throne", he was demoted to the king of Jiyin, which still made Zhu Quanzhong uneasy, so he sent someone to poison Li Ji in February 908. The vigorous Tang Li completely withdrew from the stage of history.
