Sennheiser presents the fifth generation of wireless microphone systems, built specifically for vide

Wedemark, April 14, 2023 – Sennheiser has unveiled its fifth-generation Evolution Wireless system for film production and ** applications at NAB. Built for content creators, filmmakers and broadcasters, the EW-DP is an all-digital UHF wireless microphone system with a new portable design and unmatched audio quality. At the heart of the system is a compact, intelligent receiver that makes it easy for even novice users to set up the audio. The EW-DP EK receiver has an innovative magnetic stacking system that can be easily controlled remotely via the Smart Assist app.

On set, time is precious. "That's why we designed the EW-DP to enable users to set up intuitively and quickly and help them troubleshoot their systems." In intense and high-intensity shooting environments and time-sensitive work scenarios, EW-DP provides a reliable and sustainable solution. ”

In addition to the stackable EW-DP EK receiver, the series includes a bodypack transmitter with a lapel microphone (EW-D SK), a handheld transmitter (EW-D SKM-S) and an in-line transmitter (EW-DP SKP) coming in October. As part of the growing Evolution Wireless Digital family, the EW-DP inherits the features of the series, such as the 1With an extremely low latency of 9 milliseconds and an ultra-wide dynamic range of 134 dB, it can capture everything from whispers to loud screams, reliably and without distortion.

There are currently three kits on the market, including: the EW-DP ME 2 kit with a bodypack transmitter and ME 2 omnidirectional clip-on (lavalier) microphone; The EW-DP ME 4 kit with a cardioid clip-on microphone for noisy environments; and the EW-DP 835 kit, which includes a handheld transmitter and cardioid MMD 835 dynamic microphone capsule.

All sets come with a magnetic mounting plate kit, a BA 70 rechargeable battery, two standard AA batteries, and a 35 mm TRS to 35mm TRS with locking cable, a 35mm TRS to XLR with locking cable, and a USB-C charging cable for the receiver.

Shoot on site with peace of mind

While sound is crucial to the overall quality of a work, it is often not a priority on set. For freelancers in particular, they often don't have a full-time audio staff at work. There were already enough challenges to tackle on set, so we set out to develop a UHF audio system that would allow videographers to work with peace of mind with minimal attention. "To do this, we work closely with a peer group of filmmakers, videographers and content creators. Finally, the EW-DP was born, which I would like to call a minimalist UHF system. ”

It is worth mentioning that the EW-DP is the first portable wireless system with a magnetically stacked receiver with an OLED display facing the user and an ergonomic control design. Thanks to the EW-DP's automatic frequency coordination function, once the receiver finds a free frequency (which can also be activated via the Smart Assist App) and syncs to the transmitter via Bluetooth, the videographer can quickly get the system up and running.

The EW-DP's magnetic plate allows videographers to easily (and safely) stack multiple receivers. Alternatively, the user can also use the magnetic plate with the clip provided, wear the receiver on the belt, or clip it to the device bag.

Smart notifications don't catch you off guard

EW-DP requires little to no RF or audio knowledge – if something goes wrong, the system pushes Smart Notifications to give users troubleshooting tips and guide them to resolve the issue. The system sends alerts such as audio overload, low battery, frequency occupancy, transmitter mute, and device not connected, and provides suggestions for quick resolution of the problem. "When audio isn't your only duty on set, guidance like this makes all the difference. Von Allw Rden said.

Multiple power options for long-term on-set shooting

The EW-DP receiver can be powered by a BA 70 Li-ion rechargeable battery or two standard AA batteries, or it can be powered by a power bank via a USB cable. In addition to a variety of power supply options, the EW-DP can also accurately read the battery run time (down to hours and minutes) to avoid unnecessary surprises. The transmitter has a battery life of up to 12 hours, and the receiver with a BA 70 rechargeable battery can last up to 7 hours.

Control via receiver or Smart Assist App

Automatic setup, operation and monitoring can be done even at a certain distance from the receiver – with Bluetooth connected, users can conveniently operate it via the Smart Assist app on almost any iOS or Android device. In this app, automatic frequency coordination creates reliable wireless connectivity for up to 16 systems in the field, without the need for wireless expertise. Videographers can quickly and discreetly change system settings throughout the room and remotely control the mute button on the transmitter that is accidentally activated. In addition, the app has a built-in support center with tutorials and detailed manuals.

Coming soon: a very special in-line transmitter

And that's not all: in October of this year, the series will also receive a new member - the plug-in transmitter EW-DP SKP. With +48V phantom power, it is capable of converting any wired XLR microphone into a wireless microphone, such as the MKH 416 mounted on a pole. In addition, this in-line transmitter is equipped with a locking 3The 5mm microphone input for lavalier microphones makes the EW-DP SKP feature-rich and able to really solve problems.

Multi-tool: SKP can be connected with dynamic and condenser microphones, or with a 3Lavalier microphone connection with 5mm connector. Thanks to the built-in recording function, videographers have the option to save a secure copy of the audio on a micro SD card. Launched: October 2023.

In our conversations with the peer group, many expressed a desire to establish a secure backup for their audio," Von Allw Rden shared, "so we configured a micro SD card slot on the in-line transmitter for 24-bit, 48 kHz built-in recording. ”

The in-line transmitter will be part of the EW-DP ENG package, which includes a receiver, a bodypack transmitter, ME 2 lavalier microphone and SKP in-line transmitter.
