The Monument to the People's Heroes is one of the most important projects after the founding of the People's Republic of China, it is built to praise the people's heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country, and there are many difficulties in the process of construction, but people still make full use of their unity and wisdom to finally overcome the difficulties and obstacles, and successfully complete the task.
On September 30, 1949, the country had not yet been reunified, and the regime had not yet been stabilized, but China had already passed the resolution on the plan to build a monument to the people's heroes, striving to give an "explanation" to the heroes who had sacrificed as soon as possible. As a monument of great significance, the design of the People's Monument is destined not to be simple, and its entire monument construction fully integrates the creativity of the people of the whole country. For example, the shape of the stele, because the construction of the stele originated from ancient tombs, so the stele has always been flat, but this stele shape is too old-fashioned, and it also lacks heroism, so the monument began to adopt the shape of "Fangzheng", after all, Fangzheng can show the righteousness of the heroes. Another example is the change from the usual orientation of sitting in the north and facing the south to sitting in the south and facing the north, so that the direction of the shift also shows that the Communist Party can turn things around, not only realize the reunification of the country, but also continue to lead the country to prosperity and strength.
At that time, the most difficult place was the design of the top of the stele, the design of the top of the stele was studied and re-studied by experts, and finally the "building roof" was adopted, which ensured its majestic and solemn design, and had a unique meaning of oriental aesthetics. With such a particular design, it is not easy to build because it has to be built in every way. In fact, it is also true that the groundbreaking phase of the Monument to the People's Heroes lasted three years, while the construction phase lasted nearly six years. How meticulous is it built? Let's just look at the construction crew of this project. The carving craftsmen of the monument reliefs are all recommended and assessed nationwide before they participate. After a series of selections, these people must be gathered together and trained after two years of training, until they can carve the figures on the reliefs to life.
The engineering details are similar to the construction of the atomic bomb, which is made by selecting a team, then training, and finally making it, and we can see the importance that the state attaches to the people's monument. And these are still not the most difficult, the most difficult is actually the mining and transportation of monument stones. The monument is not a stone native to Beijing, but the best choice selected by quality and distance, and it is the Fushan Quarry near Laoshan Mountain in Qingdao, Shandong Province. It is worth noting that this floating mountain is the location of Kang Youwei's tomb site, and it has nothing to do with the floating mountain in Tongling. ββAt that time, the state was collecting stone samples from various quarries across the country, and then sending them to the materials laboratory of Tsinghua University for testing, and conducting a comprehensive comparison and measurement in terms of quality, color, etc. In the end, the granite of Fushan was chosen because it is very stable in terms of color and chemical properties.
However, although the site has been selected here, everyone is still helpless for a while. Because the stone of the monument to the people's heroes is too big - according to the size requirements designed by the experts, it must be 14 meters long, 2 meters wide at the top and bottom, and 3 meters thick, so that the weight of the stone is 300 tons. 300 tons of stone, the first step of mining is enough to cause a headache. An old local stonemason, known as the "Stone God", once came up with a solution, he chiseled cannon holes around the rock mass, and then buried explosives, hoping to blow up the boulder material, but the effect was not ideal. Later, experts began to change their thinking, changing violence to trickery. Using leverage and pressure, they were able to separate the stone from the rock. But this is only the first step, the quarry is far from Beijing, how to transport to Beijing is also a big problem, and finally the organization decided to use the train transport, but the quarry is also 30 kilometers away from the nearest railway station in Qingdao. How to move became the biggest difficulty at that time, so in order to solve this problem, the staff began to carry out "**how**? At first, it was simply cleaned and then flattened to reduce the weight, but after processing and removing impurities, the weight of the stone was reduced to 280 tons.
But it turned out that it was still difficult to transport, so the workers began to process the large stone for a second time, this time with a full deep processing, and the final weight was only 103 tons. But even if it was 103 tons, the staff was still careful to transport it on the road, for fear that the stone would be damaged, so it took more than a month to reach Qingdao Railway Station after a distance of 30 kilometers at that time. But after arriving at Qingdao Railway Station, there is another problem, because the fixed load of the train is 90 tons, and the large stones weighing hundreds of tons still cannot get on the train. So the staff began to process the stone for the third time, reducing the weight to 94 tons. In the end, the stone arrived safely in Beijing. In fact, the thickness of the stone itself only needs to be 06 meters is enough, this is what I thought when I was designing, but at that time, I considered that if the stone was too thin, it would be easy to break, so it was so thick. After arriving in Beijing, it naturally did not need to be so thick, so its thickness was greatly transformed, and the weight was finally reduced to 60 tons today.
Therefore, the reason for the loss of 240 tons from 300 tons of the People's Monument also comes out - the main reason is to facilitate transportation on the road and avoid accidents, after all, our technology and transportation at that time were very effective; This method of properly optimizing material reduction is the fastest and most suitable method at that time.
