Director Yu Fujiang briefly reviewed the work carried out by the Forecast Center under the framework of the IOC, highly appreciated the long-term support given by the IOC to the construction and operation of the UNESCO-IOC South China Sea Regional Tsunami Warning Center, introduced the work ideas for the construction of a multi-hazard marine early warning system in the South China Sea under the framework of the South China Sea Regional Working Group of the Inter-Pacific Tsunami Warning and System Coordination Group, and said that the Forecast Center will be deeply involved in and promoted in the fields of tsunami risk assessment, monitoring and early warning, and disaster reduction and preparedness. Mr. Bernardo Aliaga expressed his high recognition and heartfelt gratitude to the UNESCO-IOC South China Sea Regional Tsunami Warning Center for the construction and operation of the UNESCO-IOC South China Sea Regional Tsunami Warning Center, and supported the Forecast Centre in proposing a tsunami-related action plan and building a multi-hazard early warning system in the South China Sea region under the framework of the Ocean Decade, and hoped that the Forecast Centre would provide more support and play a greater role in the implementation of the IOC Tsunami Plan.

It is reported that the Ocean Decade Tsunami Plan (ODTP) was approved and launched by IOC in June 2021 in response to the call to action of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021 2030) (hereinafter referred to as the "Ocean Decade"), in particular by shortening the time frame and uncertainty of tsunami warnings, improving the level of preparedness of coastal communities, and significantly improving the existing global tsunami warning system, with the ultimate goal of minimizing the loss of life. This program will make a decisive contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
