SK ON has unveiled its latest breakthrough in battery technology that will dazzle the audience at the upcoming battery show in Seoul. The company will showcase cutting-edge batteries with advanced fast-charging solutions, as well as a range of products showcasing its latest R&Ds.
One of the highlights will be Advanced SF and SF+ batteries, key exhibits at Interbattery 2024, Korea's top battery** exhibition, scheduled for March 6-8 at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Center.
Launched in 2021, the original SF (Ultra Fast) battery was a game-changer, providing fast charging from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. Building on this success, the Advanced SF battery has upped the ante, increasing energy density by 9% while maintaining the same fast charging time. This enhanced energy density translates into extended range on a single charge.
SK ON achieves this feat through innovative approaches, including specialized coating technology that significantly reduces anode resistance and an optimized fast-charging protocol that utilizes analytical solutions for maximum efficiency.
The SF+ battery is another variant of the SF series that pushes the boundaries further with a charging time of just 15 minutes. SK ON has achieved this astonishing speed by applying high-capacity silicon and low-resistance graphite to a self-developed double-layer structure to shorten the transmission distance of lithium ions and increase their moving speed.
Also on display at Interbattery 2024 is the Winter Pro LFP battery, highlighting its excellent performance at low temperatures. Unlike traditional LFP batteries, the Winter Pro LFP battery has a significantly shorter range in cold conditions, with a 16% and 10% increase in charge and discharge capacity, respectively, while a 19% increase in energy density.
SK ON divided its booth into four zones with the theme "Speed On", symbolizing the company's commitment to accelerating its growth trajectory.
Visitors can view a range of exhibits, including a small SK ON battery-powered vehicle, a spherical LED display showcasing the company's global operations, and demonstrations of innovative technologies such as non-washing methods for cathode active material processing.
The "Applications" zone will feature electric vehicles equipped with SK ON batteries, providing an in-depth look at their specifications and features. In addition, SK On's energy storage system (ESS) will make its public debut, giving us a glimpse into the company's next-generation DC Block technology.
Fire safety innovations will also be highlighted, including a heat transfer solution that is certified for fire safety in North America and a liquid cooling method to optimize charging and discharging efficiency while minimizing temperature differences between cells.
Visitors can also explore SK On's diverse battery portfolio in the "Battery Portfolio Diversification" area, featuring products in a variety of form factors and chemistries, including prismatic and all-solid-state batteries, each with upgraded features to meet changing market needs.
A spokesperson for SK An said: "Visitors will be able to learn about our top R&D capabilities through the exhibition. "SK ON will continue to develop innovative technologies and diversify its product portfolio to meet various needs.
