The mindset when reading is very important.
I want to be in a relaxed and enjoyable state of mind when I read a book.
Instead of rushing to read ten books this month, I want to read this book in two hours. None of this makes sense.
What I want to do is to keep reading for a long time.
So a better mindset will bring more positive feedback and make it easier to stick to it.
First, let go of reading and be in awe.
1. Reverence for knowledge rather than reverence for books
The most direct purpose of reading is to acquire knowledge, and knowledge itself is worthy and requires our awe.
There's a concept here that is confusing: it's knowledge, not books, that we're to be in awe.
Books are carriers of knowledge. We extract knowledge from books through reading for our own use.
I've had this misconception before.
When I buy and read books by myself, I take great care of them. Keep the writing clean, and taking notes is also to write and draw gently with a pencil. Later, I had a child, and there was a stage when the child liked to tear books, and I couldn't accept it at all.
I was in awe of books, but not in awe of knowledge. Because after I bought a book, most of it was shelved and I rarely read it.
Leaving knowledge dusty and not applying it is also a lack of reverence for knowledge.
2. Reading can be used to make money
I was also unacceptable to "monetize my books" before. I think reading is a noble thing, how can it have anything to do with money?
This is the typical wearing of "Kong Yiji's long gown".
Everyone reads for different purposes.
Some people want to solve the current problems, some people want to grow personally, some people want to find the meaning of life, and some people just want to make money.
I think either purpose is right.
A lot of people around me live a 996 life and devote most of the day to work.
Many of us are not that rich and still face the pressure of money.
If I think about it this way, I can't make money by reading, so if I am short of money now, will I not be able to study? Wait until I'm not bothered by the money before I come back to study? Does this make it taste bad?
What's more, we have been studying and reading for so many years, just to let ourselves and our families live a good life.
3. Increase the sense of control over reading
It is said that "to read a book, you must read the classics", in the face of classic books, or books with advanced and difficult content, or books with very powerful authors, we often enlarge the book and the author, and lower ourselves.
The most fundamental thing we need to read is to learn the content of the book and use it for our own use.
When we read a book, we should not give up reading because we can't read it. Books that we can't understand may not be suitable for us for the time being, or maybe the author writes them that are obscure.
We can also question the content of the book, not all books are good. Some chapters in some books are just wordy or unclearly structured.
Don't read on your knees, use books as tools to serve yourself.
Pay attention to what is the purpose of my book and whether this book can help me.
Second, don't worry too much about how to read a book.
Reading is not a difficult task in itself. But anyone who knows some words and has a certain ability to understand can read.
The threshold for reading is very low.
is too entangled in the method of reading, and the corresponding thing behind it is that the utilitarian nature of reading is too strong and too anxious.
I am in a hurry to eat a book thoroughly, and I care about the efficiency and quantity of reading.
For people who don't have the habit of reading, these set a threshold for themselves.
It seems that if I didn't find an effective method, I was sorry for the time and effort I put into reading.
There is also an incorrect perception that reading is a very energy-consuming thing.
Perhaps for people who don't have the habit of reading, reading books is really draining. It was very difficult to let him sit there for ten minutes, word by word.
But maybe give him a ** to read, and he won't be able to stop reading.
The point is not that reading consumes energy, but that you don't realize that reading can also relax your brain.
It's not about reading professional books, it's about reading books with in-depth content.
Therefore, I think the first step in reading a book is to find a book that interests you and read it, and first develop the habit of reading.
Use the time you usually read for a short ** to read a book. I used to unconsciously pick up my phone, but now I unconsciously pick up a book to read.
After developing the habit of reading, you can study some reading methods or some reading tools according to your own needs.
Look more at the target and less at the tool.
Third, don't be afraid to forget.
Many people give up reading because they feel that they don't remember anything after reading a book, so they think that reading is useless.
If we don't have the ability to memorize, we certainly can't remember much.
And the content itself is of little significance, now that the network is developed, when you need a certain knowledge point, you can search it at any time, so there is no need to memorize.
Reading books is essentially meant to inspire us to think.
For example, a question that I have been unable to figure out, one day I suddenly understood. This is the result of reading, experiencing, and thinking about it.
I read a book and there was one place that struck me, and the content of this part of my brain lit up once. When we read more books, the more touching points, and slowly form a network from dots, then we will become clearer and clearer about this part of the content, improve our cognition, and see many things more clearly.
So reading is something that needs to be persisted in for a long time.
