Mercedes Benz is not to give up electric vehicles, but to do without traditional fuel vehicles

Recently, the incident on the Internet about Mercedes-Benz abandoning the electric car plan and continuing to produce traditional fuel vehicles has attracted a lot of attention on the Internet.

There are even some people who believe that Mercedes-Benz, as a world-renowned luxury car brand, has given up pure electric vehicles, so as to infer that the pure electric vehicle market is worried.

It is undeniable that the new energy vehicles we refer to are not just pure electric vehicles, including hydrogen-powered, alcohol-powered and even nuclear-powered vehicles in the future, we can call it new energy vehicles. There are also some shortcomings in pure electric vehicles at this stage. For example, battery life anxiety, slow charging speed, and even easy spontaneous combustion, etc.

However, if the entire pure electric vehicle market is denied just because of the above reasons, it still seems too one-sided in the car quick review.

Because whether it is a traditional fuel vehicle or a pure electric vehicle that is booming, each has its own advantages, which is also the inevitable result of the existence of two sides of things. Therefore, even if Mercedes-Benz continues to produce fuel vehicles, it does not mean that Mercedes-Benz has given up pure electric vehicles.

Note that on March 7, Mercedes-Benz officials also gave a positive response to the question of whether to abandon electric vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz's official statement on this is that Mercedes-Benz's firm determination to electrify transformation remains unchanged, and Mercedes-Benz will continue to promote electrification transformation in the Chinese market and bring customers a rich and luxurious product choice. As for the timing of the electrification transition, Mercedes-Benz only said that it would postpone the electrification target by five years and continue to produce internal combustion engine vehicles for the next 10 years.

By 2030, NEVs are expected to account for 50% of sales.

That is to say, it is not that Mercedes-Benz has given up on the electric vehicle plan, but that it will blossom on both sides for a long time to come. Not only does it not stop selling traditional fuel vehicles, but also accelerate the pace of electrification transformation, why does Mercedes-Benz do this?

To understand this problem, let's look at the following set of data.

Sales data shows that in 2023, Mercedes-Benz's cumulative global sales will be close to 2.5 million units, a year-on-year increase of 15%。Among them, the sales of electric vehicles are only 470,000 units, accounting for less than 20%. According to Mercedes-Benz's current market performance, if the electrification goal is not postponed, Mercedes-Benz's sales in the global market will be ** based on the sales of electric vehicles alone. Not to mention maintaining 2.5 million units, even 1 million units is difficult to achieve.

Looking at the domestic market, Mercedes-Benz's cumulative domestic sales in 2023 will be 7650,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 17%。However, for the sales of pure electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz did not officially announce it, but only used the words "sales doubled" to describe it.

Referring to BMW's sales volume, BMW sold 82 in China in 202350,000 vehicles, of which 100,000 pure electric vehicles were sold, a year-on-year increase of 138%. From this, it can be concluded that Mercedes-Benz's pure electric vehicle sales in the domestic market in 2023 should be around 100,000 units, or even lower.

To sum up, Mercedes-Benz is not giving up electric vehicles, but it is inseparable from traditional fuel vehicles, so it will postpone the goal of electrification.
