Eleven men and women from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea won gold medals at the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships in February this year.
More than 190 outstanding male and female athletes from more than 30 countries and regions participated in the championship, and the DPRK weightlifters broke seven world records, won 32 gold medals and one silver medal, and won a total of 33 medals.
The results of the North Korean athletes at the 19th Asian Games last year and the Asian Weightlifting Championships have attracted the attention of the world weightlifting community.
In the women's weightlifting event in particular, the North Korean athletes set new world records in a total of 12 detailed events, ranking first in the national order.
Kang Hyun-kyung competed in the women's 55 kg class and won three gold medals with a snatch of 104 kg (a new world record and a new Asian record), a clean and jerk of 123 kg, and a total of 227 kg.
Park Myung-jin competed in the men's 61kg category and won the championship in the snatch, clean and jerk and overall results.
Li Shengjin participated in the women's 49 kg competition and won three gold medals with a snatch of 95 kg, a clean and jerk of 125 kg (a new world record, a new Asian record), and a total of 220 kg (a new world record and a new Asian record).
