However, as an aerospace power, many universities in China have launched satellites. Among them, the most famous is naturally Harbin Institute of Technology, which already has 6 satellites, and Tsinghua University, Peking University, Western University of Technology and other universities have also launched their own satellites. Recently, an agriculture and forestry university also launched its first satellite, which is Beijing Forestry University.
At 12:03 on January 23, 202, the Ecological Civilization Land Ecosystem Monitoring Satellite of Beijing Forestry University, together with the other four satellites, ascended into space on the Lijian-1 Yao-3 commercial carrier rocket and successfully reached the scheduled orbit. This is the first satellite named after Beijing Forestry University and the first satellite named after ecological civilization in China.
According to reports, this satellite is the symbol and beginning of the cooperation between Beijing Forestry University and Wuhan East Lake Big Data Technology Co., Ltd. to carry out terrestrial ecosystem monitoring, mainly used for scientific research in terrestrial ecosystem monitoring.
In fact, this is not the first contact between Beijing Forestry University and the aerospace field, many years ago, the school has already carried out aerospace breeding work. He has repeatedly taken rockets to send carefully selected seeds into space for cultivation, in order to breed new varieties of plants with high yield, high quality, strong stress resistance or good landscape effect through space mutagenesis. The most recent one was in May 2023, when 48,160 forest seeds and experimental materials of a variety of agricultural and forestry microbial strains selected by Beijing Forestry University were sent into space for breeding with the Shenzhou 16 manned spacecraft.

Although Beijing Forestry University is a 211, it is inconspicuous among the 116 211 universities because it is an agriculture and forestry university. But in fact, the strength of this university is still very strong. It is a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the Beijing Municipal People's Government. It has 7 postdoctoral mobile stations, 8 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, 25 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points, 4 interdisciplinary and 17 professional master's degree authorization points.
The two disciplines of forestry and landscape architecture are double first-class disciplines. In addition, four disciplines, namely ecology, biology, forestry engineering, and agricultural and forestry economic management, received B-s, and environmental science and engineering received B-, with a total of 15 disciplines on the list.
In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, 7 985 schools did not obtain any A+ disciplines, so the strength of Beijing Forestry University, which has two A+ disciplines, is actually not bad. It's just that many parents of candidates feel that the employment of agriculture and forestry majors is not good, so even if it is located in Beijing, the admission score is not high among the 211 universities. In fact, the employment of agriculture and forestry majors is not a big problem, but the working environment and salary may not be as good as those popular majors, such as computer and electronic information. China is a big agricultural country, but it is not an agricultural power, and there is still a big gap compared with the United States, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and other agricultural powers. In recent years, the absolute gap between the per capita value added of agriculture, forestry and fishery and that of high-income countries has continued to widen, from 1 in 1997$90,000 expanded to $3 in 2019$480,000 (constant 2015). Agriculture and forestry majors may also become an outlet in the near future, just like the current computer and electronic information majors.
Of course, you can't choose a major to look at the future, but also look at the present. From the school's 2022 employment quality report, it can be seen that the school's overall graduation destination is still well implemented, reaching 931%, of which 91 are undergraduate graduates29, 9615%, 9725%。
It has a progression rate of 3424%, including 28 in China41%, while the class of 2023 has a research retention rate of 2002%, that is to say, most of the people who go on to higher education in China are from the graduate school.
Among the graduates who choose employment, most of the undergraduate and master's students are working in companies, while most of the doctoral students are working in public institutions, presumably in universities or scientific research institutions. At the same time, the most undergraduate students are not engaged in agriculture and forestry-related industries, but "culture, sports and entertainment", which means that most undergraduate graduates may not be employed in the right field and major. The most engaged in "agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery" are the ones that master's students are most engaged in. As can be seen from the figure, the employment industries of master's degree students are relatively wide, and the number of people in various industries is relatively large.
From this employment quality report, it can be seen that the employment of undergraduate graduates majoring in agriculture and forestry is actually not very good, or they are not willing to go to agriculture and forestry enterprises. The industry selectivity of master's graduates is relatively large, and it is obvious that the salary and environment should be much better. Doctoral students usually go to work in research institutes and universities. Therefore, if you are interested in working in agriculture and forestry, it is recommended to study for a master's degree or above.
