A new season of sports
On March 2, 2024, Beijing time, according to a report by ESPN TV in the United States, an insider revealed to the TV reporter that the team of professional boxing super-middleweight supremacy and Mexican boxing superstars Saul Alvarez (Saul Alvarez) and Jaime Munguia (Jaime Munguia) are in full swing in negotiations for the May 5 weekend.
As the most popular fighter in boxing today, Saul Alvarez's market influence is undeniable, and as long as he participates in the fights, there is bound to be a guarantee of ratings. After defeating super welterweight powerhouse Jemel Charlo, Sur Alvarez was supposed to continue his partnership with Al Haymon for the remaining two bouts in the deal. But because Al Haymon's top boxing champion promotion company was unwilling to pay another $35 million for Gemmar Charlo and Sur Alvarez to fight, the two sides negotiated an end to the partnership with two of the three fights remaining. Saul Alvarez has also started reaching out to his former partners and broadcast platforms to prepare for his next match.
The first thing Sur Alvarez found was the streaming platform DAZN, after all, the two major event promoters on this platform, Oscar de la Hoya and Eddie Hearn, have cooperated. There had been a plan to have Sur Alvarez fight Edgar Berlanga, a rising American super middleweight rookie during the Cinco de Mayo, but the plan was shelved due to market concerns and fears that the match would become boring.
The 27-year-old Jamie Monguia, a native of Saul Alvarez, is a former WBO Super Welterweight World Champion who competed in six World Title fights between 2018 and 2019. However, after moving up to middleweight, Monguia's development has suffered and he has never been able to get a chance to play a major fight. As a last resort, Monguia moved up to super middleweight and eventually defeated World Title challenger Sergey Drevyanchenko by unanimous decision in June 2023.
Even more impressively, Jamie Monguia, under the guidance of famed coach Freddie Roach, defeated former World Title challenger and Briton John Ryder by TKO in the ninth round of the bout on January 27. The victory in this match also helped Jamie Monguia increase his current bargaining chips.
However, since Saul Alvarez defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in 2017, Las Vegas has rarely hosted such an in-house bout between Mexicans, so if the bout is officially confirmed, the promoters of the event may need to put some effort into the publicity.
