Efforts based on primitive methods are low levels of diligence.
How do you get out of the trap of low-level diligence? Teacher Cheng Jia gave a wonderful answer in "Study Hard".
Do you remember the book you read? Everyone said: It's normal to forget after reading, and we have internalized knowledge into ability.
In fact, the knowledge that is internalized into competence is the most unforgettable. So, what we hold up as a "classic" method of reading is likely to be inefficient? Why is that?
The reason is very simple: reading + drawing lines The reading method of excerpts is to split a book into isolated knowledge points. Under the guidance of this method, the purpose of our reading becomes to understand and remember these isolated knowledge points. Understanding and memorizing isolated pieces of information is not an efficient activity that our brains are good at.
In fact, the brain's memory relies on associating information with old experiences.
In addition to helping us remember, the brain's ability to learn new knowledge through existing knowledge has a more important role: we can build new and old knowledge into knowledge networks. By establishing a network between old and new knowledge, we are able to analyse the same knowledge from different perspectives and domains, thereby deepening our understanding and knowledge.
Reading requires time, patience and thinking, and connects the new knowledge acquired with the existing knowledge in a network. In this process, it is possible for us to internalize the knowledge and form hints of new behaviors.
Thinking while reading a book connects the inspiration of thinking with our experience. I am often pleasantly surprised to find patterns that I had not noticed in the past, as well as ways to directly improve working methods. My reading results have entered a state of compounding effect.
When I want to solve a problem, I take the initiative to look for articles and books that may discuss the problem, and observe—what kind of thinking does the author use to solve the problem? Is there any knowledge behind this solution that I am familiar with? Where else can I apply the principles of this solution?
When I think about these questions, I may not have read a book, but my understanding and knowledge of this problem is deeper than that of anyone who has read the book 10 times. This state is presented with the ability to draw inferences.
Therefore, reading is not about how much, but whether you have re-understood the world through reading, discovered critical knowledge and applied it to your own life.
Life is limited, don't waste your limited life in those "low-level diligence traps".
The above is excerpted from Teacher Cheng Jia's "Study Hard", and I encourage you!
Read a little bit every day, enrich your knowledge, and get a little inspiration!
