Market Overview:With the joint efforts of new energy SUVs such as Tesla Model Y, BYD Song PLUS, and BYD Yuan PLUS, as well as traditional fuel SUVs such as Haval H6, Honda CR-V, and Toyota Fenglanda, the share of SUVs in the domestic passenger car market in the second half of 2023 has repeatedly exceeded that of sedans.
This also means that more and more models are joining the SUV market, making it gradually the most competitive area among the three major segments of the passenger car market.
According to data, there were only 194 sedans sold in China in January (traditional fuel, pure electric and plug-in hybrid are counted separately), while the number of SUVs reached 310, of which compact SUV models were the most, about 100.
Correspondingly, among the 30 SUVs with the worst sales in January, the number of compact SUVs is also the largest 10, including not only the plug-in hybrid version of popular SUVs such as Toyota R**4, Toyota Veranda, Lynk & Co 01, Geely Xingyue L, etc., but also Haval Kugou, Haval Divine Beast and Besturn B70S and other relatively high traditional fuel SUVs.
There are two main reasons why these compact SUVs are being pushed to the bottom of sales.
Either it is ** high, for example, the plug-in hybrid model of the above popular SUV is directly more expensive than the corresponding traditional fuel version, and some are even about 100,000 more expensive.
Either the space is small, although the positioning is compact, but in fact, many models have reached the body size and wheelbase of medium-sized SUVs, so the product competitiveness of still insisting on only entry-level compact SUVs is of course much weaker.
