Israeli media Israel boycotted a new round of ceasefire talks in Gaza

Beijing, 4 Mar (Xinhua) -- A new round of ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip was held in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on 3 March. According to Israel**, the reason for Israel's boycott of this round of negotiations is that Israel has asked Hamas to hand over the complete list of detainees who are still alive, which has been refused.

Refusal of delegations.

Israel's Novaya Izvestia newspaper quoted Israel as saying that Israel did not send a delegation to Cairo because Hamas refused to give a "clear answer" to Israel's demands.

A person familiar with the matter said on the 2nd that Israel demanded that Hamas hand over the complete list of detainees who are still alive, otherwise it would refuse to participate in the Cairo negotiations. Palestinian sources told Reuters that Hamas rejected the request.

According to Reuters, in previous negotiations, Hamas was usually reluctant to say what happened to the detainees until the terms of release were agreed. Hamas is also believed to be holding about 130 people, more than 30 of whom may have died as a result of Israeli airstrikes, among other reasons.

Egypt** reported that the Hamas delegation had arrived in Cairo on the 3rd. A Palestinian** then said that a ceasefire would have to be negotiated. The Israeli side has not yet provided an update on the ceasefire agreement.

The United States said on the 2nd that the framework of an agreement on a temporary ceasefire for 6 weeks has been basically finalized and agreed by the Israeli side, and Hamas is still required to agree to release the detainees during the ceasefire.

A Hamas** said that if Israel agrees to the conditions put forward by Hamas, it is possible that the two sides can reach a ceasefire agreement "within a day or two".

However, the latest public statements by the two sides show no signs of backing down. Israel has insisted that it will not end its military operations until it is completely eliminated, while Hamas has said it will not release Israeli personnel until a long-term ceasefire agreement is reached.

Osama Hamdan, a senior member of Hamas, said in an interview with Qatar's Arabi television that Hamas insisted on a long-term ceasefire, not a short-term one.

The new round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has been going on for nearly five months, and the two sides only briefly suspended fire for a week in November last year.

Since January this year, Israel, the United States, Egypt and Qatar have held a number of negotiations on the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, discussing a three-phase ceasefire plan, among other things. Hamas and Israel refused to negotiate face-to-face, with Egypt and Qatar "passing the word" between the two.

The mediators hope that the Palestinians and Israelis will reach a ceasefire agreement before Ramadan. U.S. Joseph Biden said early last week that he hoped Israel and Hamas would reach a ceasefire agreement by March 4, but later postponed the date for reaching a deal. He said on the 1st that he hoped that a ceasefire agreement would be reached before Ramadan, but the agreement has not yet been negotiated.

The offensive has not weakened.

The Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has not been abated by the ceasefire talks. The health department of the Gaza Strip said on the 3rd that in the past 24 hours, the Israeli army's attack on the Gaza Strip killed 90 people and injured 177 people on the Palestinian side; Since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict in October last year, Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip have caused more than 3 percent of the Palestinians to do so040,000 deaths, more than 710,000 people were injured.

Gaza ** said on the 3rd that a truck carrying aid supplies in the central city of Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip was hit by Israeli airstrikes on the same day, killing at least eight people. The southern Gaza Strip cities of Khan Younis and Rafah were also subjected to Israeli artillery and air strikes.

The Israeli military announced on the 3rd the preliminary results of the attack on the material collection point in Gaza City, claiming that most of the dead died in the stampede, and only "a few people" died under Israeli guns because of the threat posed to Israeli soldiers. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the Israeli side will conduct an independent investigation in the future.

Palestine ** refuted the Israeli findings. Mustassem Salah, the health department of the Gaza Strip, said that the dead and wounded were all wounded by large-caliber bullets and that the cause of death was not a "stampede" as the Israeli side claimed.

The Gaza Strip** said that on 29 February, Israeli forces opened fire on a crowd waiting to receive aid in Gaza City, killing more than 100 people and wounding more than 700. Israel has denied attacking civilians, saying they died in a stampede caused by looting supplies. Many parties condemned the incident and demanded an investigation. (Wang Hongbin).
