The "giant baby" on the Gobi in Gansu is known as the "son of the earth".
On the Gobi Desert in the northwest desert, there is a peculiar landscape, from a distance, it looks like a sleeping baby, safe and quiet, and its name is the same - the son of the earth.
Basic introduction. The Son of the Earth is a large-scale sculpture located on the Gobi Desert on the slope of the Red Mountain in Guazhou County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, but it is not the same as the sculpture in our impression, it is not a historical celebrity but the appearance of a large baby, and the baby is not sitting or lying, but kneeling on the ground, a quiet appearance of falling asleep.
Make the background. In fact, this giant sculpture of "Son of the Earth" was created by Professor Dong Shubing, director of the sculpture department of the Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University.
After combing and researching the current large-scale sculptures in the world, and trying to apply the large-scale sculpture creation materials that can be used in China, he finally chose to use red sandstone as the main material, use 3D scanning to obtain model data for 3D carving, and finally stitch together block by block to form large-scale outdoor theme sculptures.
The sculpture is very different from the proportions of a normal person, with a total length of about 15 meters and a height of about 43 meters, about 9 meters wide, like a large "giant baby", it has become a wonder on this desert Gobi.
Convey ideas. Although it is a sculpture, it is not stereotyped, it looks like a real baby, with a cute expression, closed eyes, lying quietly on its stomach, like a child nestled in its mother's arms, sleeping peacefully.
We human beings are like the children of Mother Earth, only in the arms of Mother Earth can be so peaceful, and the designer of this sculpture is hoping that through such a sculpture, people will awaken the concept of protecting the environment and protecting the earth, and hope that human beings will create a more harmonious and beautiful living environment. Because the sculpture is like a child, so thousands of miles here to pray for blessings, hoping to get a child for themselves, although it is not realistic, but the heart is sincere, and it is auspicious.
