Guo Shuang: Women s self consciousness comes from some small non concessions

Mondo Psychological Updated on 2024-01-30

When I was seven years old, I moved to a new elementary school. On the first day of cleaning, I got into a fight with the study committee member of the class for grabbing a mop.

Unexpectedly, another incident happened a few days later. I don't remember what it was, but this time it was with a guy in the back row who had an advantage in height and weight over me, and I still fought with him. He probably didn't expect me to attack him suddenly, and when I won the battle, he just lay on his desk and cried.

I'm a very introverted kid, but very stubborn. When I fought with a girl, I didn't think about who she was, I felt that she was wrong, so I had to defend my rightsWhen faced with a boy, I still didn't back down. He cried and I was willing to apologize to him, but I still felt like I should do it.

More than 30 years have passed, and some time ago, a classmate came in the elementary school classmate group, and everyone began to chat. This boy who had fought with me suddenly came out and said, hey, I still remember that I was beaten and cried by Guo Shuang.

As a child, he showed his true self, and now he says it in a tone of "childhood was so beautiful". He has two daughters, and I often see him holding their **. I think he would encourage his daughter not to back down when faced with boys.

Later, in the workplace, I never seemed to back down when faced with discussions and conflicts with my male leaders or colleagues. I've always been very open about what I think. Women's self-consciousness comes from some small non-concessions.

Q1: At what point did you realize that you were a woman?

Guo ShuangMy grandmother and aunt had a strong influence on me. My grandmother was a scientific and technological worker who went to Guizhou to support construction, and she was an independent woman born in the 30s of the 20th century. She taught me at a very young age that intellectual curiosity is very important and financial independence is very important;Relationships are also very important if you are looking for a lifelong partner. My aunt will give me similar mental support.

I feel that I have the same biological sex as them, and I want to have the same life as them, but does living such a female life make me happy? In the second half of junior high school, I was clearly attracted to a certain boy and felt happy because I was different from him, and I developed a gender identity from psychological to physical. The beautiful feeling of this crush made me sincerely recognize my feminine gender.

Q2: What is your feminist consciousness enlightenment?

Guo ShuangThe real feminist enlightenment should be when I was in high school, when I started to watch Chen Ran's ** "Sound Broken" and Duras' ** episode "Lover's Black Hair and Blue Eyes". At that time, there will be a very strong awareness of discovering one's body.

Q3: Who is the most courageous person in your eyes?

Guo ShuangGrandpa and grandma. They were born during the war years, and what they experienced was not a blow or setback, but a blow and setback that never stopped. But in the end, they abide by the principle of life to be honest, kind, optimistic, and resilient. When you have gone through all this, it is the greatest courage to still choose this way.

Q4: How would you accumulate your courage?

Guo ShuangBe true to yourself.

Q5: Which one would you most like to say no to women?

Guo ShuangDon't play "woman" and don't play "man". I don't want to play a more powerful, more correct male posture, I don't want to play a traditional female role, I'm just myself. It takes a great deal of courage. This will not be a one-time answer, everyone needs to ask themselves, and they need to keep exploring and getting closer in the course of life.

Q6: What is it that men can easily have but women have a hard time having?

Guo ShuangThe right not to become pregnant.

Q7: Do you ever feel happy that you are a woman?

Guo ShuangThere will be unconditional support and trust among women. If you are a girl, whether it is a sudden "big aunt" on the road, or you are very afraid of something, or you have lost something and got lost, who do you choose to help? You have to pick a woman, right? There is a high probability that the other party will help you, and women already have a subconscious sense of security for the same sex. But I don't think men have that confidence within themselves, how many conditions do they need to have to reach this kind of relationship? This kind of trust and kindness makes me feel that it is good to be a woman.

Q8: What would you like to say to your male friends?

Guo ShuangThank you for existing. If we want the world to be a better place, we can all be our authentic selves.

Q9: If women could go on a group adventure, what would it be that they would like to do?

Guo ShuangI want to hold a very big event for middle-aged and elderly women after menopause. Not only are they retired, but they also have a new chapter in their lives, both physically and psychologically. In a biophilic place, you can play in the water, have a picnic, camp, and share physical and psychological knowledge. Why collective? It seems that everyone is quite lonely when they come to their period for the first time, and at most they are accompanied by their mothers, other female elders or female classmates. When you say goodbye to your period, can you feel less lonely, or feel happy?"Finally goodbye to this old friend, and now I'm going to a new stop in my life. ”

Q10: Share a feminist work you love and explain why.

Guo ShuangJeanne Dielman (23, Quaidu Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles) by Chantal Akerman. There are so many ideas and theories around women and feminism, and this film returns to a state of everyday life – do you really have the patience to observe the lives that 99% of women are living every day?I think the director must have loved her mother very much to make this film. Sure enough, she said that the letters that her daughter sent to her mother in the movie were "love letters", love letters.
