Ahead of its launch early next year, the pricing of the highly anticipated 2024 Lexus GX has been announced. The GX hasn't undergone a full redesign since 2009 and is now in its third generation for the 2024 model year with some significant changes. Pricing starts at $550 for the GX 64,250 Premium (excluding $1,350 shipping, processing, and handling). This puts the Lexus significantly above the cheapest Land Rover Defender ($56,400), but well below the cheapest Mercedes-Benz G-Class ($139,900), which are the two closest competitors in terms of luxury and off-road ability.
Lexus has drastically weakened Mercedes by more than half, and the Land Rover comparison isn't exactly apple-to-apple. The Defender offers a two-door body style with a four-cylinder engine, while the GX only offers a four-door body with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine as standard. A similar Defender 110 with a turbocharged inline-six engine costs $67,900, which is higher than the GX.
All GX 550 models are equipped with a 3A 4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine produces 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission. These are healthy growth for the upcoming GX 460, its 46-liter V8 engine and poor fuel economy. Lexus will also launch a hybrid GX, but no further details have been released as of the time of writing.
Premium+ interiors start at $69,250, while Luxury and Luxury+ start at $77,250 and $81,250, respectively. Customers who want to go off-road should opt for Overtrail ($69,250) or Overtrail+ ($77,250). These versions add an Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (EKMSS) with locking front and rear stabilizer bars, as well as Multi-Terrain Select. Each GX comes with a Torsen limited-slip** locking differential, while two Overtrail trims add a controlled-locking rear differential. As Lexus teased at SEMA, the GX will offer new accessories to improve the SUV's capabilities.
Buyers can choose from a variety of exterior colors (depending on grade), including Eminent White Pearl, Nebula Gray Pearl, Atomic Silver, Incognito (a GX first), C**iar, Nori Green Pearl, and Nightfall Mica. Overtrails also offers a combination of two shades: Atomic Silver, Stealth, Nori Green Pearl, and a new color called Earth, all paired with a black roof.
Inside, Premium, Premium+, Luxury, and Luxury+ trim offer up to 7 seats, complete with a second row of benches or captain's chairs. The upholstery can be wrapped in semi-aniline leather or nuluxe, and the color options include black, speckled grey or saddle tan with black or dark brown grained trim.
A more detailed breakdown of the trim is currently available on Lexus**, but at the time of writing, the configurator isn't live yet. The 2024 GX will arrive at dealerships in early 2024.
