The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that a total of 321 feature films are in contention96th Academy Awards, among others265 films qualify for Best PictureIn addition to the general eligibility criteria, there are other eligibility requirements for this award.
According to the rules implemented annually at the 96th Academy Awards, to be considered for a general category of entry, a feature film must be released in a commercial cinema in at least one of the six metropolitan areas of the United States: Los Angeles County;New York City;Bay Area;Chicago, Illinois;Miami, Florida;Held in Atlanta, Georgia between January 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023, and complete at least 7 consecutive days of qualifiers at the same venue. Feature films must be longer than 40 minutes. A full "reminder list" for general feature film entries can be found here, including actors who are also being considered.
To be eligible for the Best Picture category at the 96th Academy Awards, a film must meet the general entry criteria and submit a confidential Oscar Representation and Inclusion Standard (RAISE) entry form. In addition to the drama eligibility requirements, they must meet two of the four criteria. The film's distributor or producer can opt out of consideration for Best Picture.
