Cross-bridge rice noodles are a special delicacy in Yunnan, and there is a legend about its origin.
Legend has it that during the Qing Dynasty, there was a small island in Mengzi South Lake in Yunnan, and there was a Xiucai on the island, who had to go to the island every day to study. His wife would bring him food every day, but due to the long distance, it was already cold when it arrived.
One day, Xiucai's wife stewed a chicken and was going to make up for Xiucai's body. She stewed the chicken with the rice noodles, and when she finished stewing, she found that the rice noodles were too long to serve in a bowl. She had an idea, poured the rice noodles into a large casserole with the soup, then put the casserole in the basket, picked it up and left. When she walked to the bridge, she found that the rice noodles had become hot and soft. She put the casserole on the stone by the bridge and let Xiucai eat it. After eating it, Xiucai felt that the taste was very good, the rice noodles were smooth and tender, and the chicken soup was fragrant and strong. Since then, Xiucai's wife has been delivering food to Xiucai every day, and this practice has also spread in the local area.
Later, people called this kind of rice noodles "cross-bridge rice noodles" because it was sent over the bridge. Cross-bridge rice noodles have also become a famous snack in Yunnan and are deeply loved by people.
