In 2011, a friend introduced me to visit an old man surnamed Gu, and he said, "You are studying Buddhism and practicing, I see that you are crazy all day long, I am worried about you, you might as well go find this old gentleman." Listening to him can change you.
I used to be a conceited person, and I didn't want to hear this, but my friends kept urging me. One day he said that he and Mr. Gu said that I would go to him.
I couldn't excuse myself, so I followed the address he gave me.
It was a shock to go there, I live in this city, although it is also an old neighborhood, but I have never been in such an environment as his place.
The alley is so narrow that only two or three people can stand side by side, and the shops on the road are either small hair salons that are black and black, or they are unsightly in the rivers and lakes, and I don't dare to look at the people sitting at the corner of the street, tattooed with tigers and wolves, with a murderous face. Shorts and undershirts hung everywhere, garbage was everywhere, a madman stood there alone swearing, and passers-by calmly ate gutter oil snacks beside her.
I was stunned by this aura, and I thought to myself, this Uncle Gu, who has lived in this place alone for decades, can this survive?
After looking for a long time, I found his house, which was the second floor of a small two-story building. The first floor is a pavement with elastic cotton. When I went up to the second floor, he opened the door and told me to go in.
When I saw it, Uncle Gu was thin and neatly dressed, his eyes exuded a kind light, his hair was gray, he was holding a pipe, and he told me to sit down and drink tea.
There was nothing in his house except tables and chairs, and there was no TV or cabinet.
I said, "Uncle Gu, don't you feel uncomfortable living alone in this kind of place for decades?"
He smiled and said, "I've always lived here, and I never feel bad."
I said, "Are you deceiving yourself or do you really feel uncomfortable?"Obviously, the environment of this place is really not good.
He said: "My heart is clear, I live everywhere, and I am so comfortable."
I said, "You mean, if you see through it, you can live wherever you live?"
He said: Yes, I have seen through it, people and things are similar, there is not much difference. You may have walked all the way into this place and thought it was terrible, but I looked pretty good.
Xiao Li who plays cotton downstairs, his wife is a disabled person, he never gives up, he plays cotton alone to raise his wife to take care of his wife, the scolding female madman, there used to be a very cute son, died in a car accident, she went crazy, the people on this street tolerate her every day to scold the street, you should see a tattooed strong man when you come in, he rescued a lot of stray cats, and fed them every day to help them neuter and find their owners.
The people in this place are diverse, but they may not be as bad as you think, they are also good and beautiful.
The so-called seeing through does not mean that everything is known, but that it is not defined by a one-sided impression. To see through is precisely to not always feel very thorough. In Zheng Banqiao's words, it is rare to be confused.
When you see some phenomena, you immediately define them, and you feel that you are very wise and sober to see very thoroughly, and you feel that the whole world is drunk and I am awake, and this time is precisely the time when it is very impenetrable.
The so-called rare confusion is not to be self-righteous, not to see the wind is rain, wait slowly, understand more, and then take a look.
After listening to it, I felt that this Uncle Gu was indeed still a little tricky, so I asked: What is the way to live for the person who sees through? What does it look like to see everything through?
He said, "What does it look like?"It turns out that what it looks like is what it is, and it is the same way, it used to eat rice or eat rice, and what it used to do is what it is now.
I said: As far as I know, the whole body and mind of the person who sees through should have changed, it must be different from before, and the whole level has been sublimated and improved, how can it be the same?
He said, "Do you want to be as high as **?"If you think that being thorough is high in sublimation, and if you are not thorough, you are very low, then you will never be able to be thorough.
If you understand that this is Elysium, then even if you go to Elysium, you don't think it is Bliss.
If you go to Bliss and you think it's so good that it's finally better than before, then there's a problem, because you're going to go for Bliss that is better than Bliss.
In my opinion, there is nothing to sublimate in life, let's try not to go up to improve ourselves, try to return to the bottom as much as possible.
I said, "Go down?".
He said, "Let go of what should be thrown away, and let go of what should be released." Returning to the time when there is nothing to throw away, there is nothing to sublimate, and there is nothing to achieve, and there is nothing to achieve, it can barely be called a little bit of a feeling of being thorough.
I asked him again: Do people who see through still have troubles and feelings?
He said: The person who sees through is not a monster, and ordinary people have it, and he has it too. He also has to eat, sleep, deal with people, live in the world, and do things.
However, what is different from us is that whether it is troubles or feelings, he is real, down-to-earth, and completely involved and faced.
He is not like us, we are deformed in the face of troubles, and it is not normal to face emotions, often starting from the self, opening teeth and dancing claws and troubles to tear private feelings, tormented by it, the same is true for feelings, to die or live, to cry and laugh, to be sad and happy. We think we are truly alive, but we are actually living in vanity.
The person who sees through is the real life, and he really allows himself to completely connect with the troubles and emotions, so they live a focused life and live a plain and ordinary life.
The person who sees through is not afraid of troubles, the troubles come when they come, we are very afraid of the troubles, we try our best to eliminate the troubles until the troubles become more and more, and the person who sees through them, he does not superimpose new troubles on top of the troubles, he knows how to let the troubles fend for themselves like soap bubbles.
In the face of emotion, the person who sees through is not ruthless, he is more sincere and deep than all people, and if his relatives are gone, he will definitely grieve, but this grief and sadness do not affect his thorough and pure mind.
On the other hand, because he has a thorough mind, he can understand more clearly than anyone else what the death of this loved one is like, so he will not fall into blind and endless sorrow.
I asked: So if a person who sees through everything sees through everything, then what is the point of his life?
He said that it is precisely because he has seen through everything that he has seen through the meaning that he no longer pursues those ethereal meanings and clings to those meanings that others recognize.
So he was completely true to himself.
I asked: So how do you understand these two words?
He said: Thoroughness means that there is no obstacle to the end, thoroughness is the exhaustion without omission, and thoroughness means that there is no obstacle to everything.
Therefore, thoroughness can also be called unhindered, unhindered to everything. The term translated into the Dharma is called Great Freedom.
We don't live our lives thoroughly. It will be very painful, and the quality of life will not be very good, because you can't see through many things, and you will be troubled and painful and suppress yourself.
When people can't see through, they have a big temper, and they are easy to hurt others and hurt themselves; The heart is small, and it can't fit anything, people and things.
I said, "That side of the glass has no barrier to light, and everything can be transparent, is this called transparency?"
He said: This is also called penetration, but it is not thorough, because he can still block it, and it must be truly empty, and there is no obstacle to anything entering and exiting, which is called real penetration.
For example, in the face of the void, can you say that if you take away the void on the left, he will lose a piece? No matter how you take him, you won't lose those few pieces. You can't say that I entered through this void and then came out of this void again.
Whoever can enter and come out is not called thorough, nor is it called thorough. Therefore, a truly thorough entry is a determination without inconsistencies, a determination without obstacles, and a determination of everything, all times, and all circumstances.
But even if it is so thorough, although the Buddha often said it, most of us don't believe it.
I said, "What the Buddha said, we practitioners all take it as a guideline, so how can we not believe it?"
He said: Many practitioners are also suspicious of him. When the Buddha said everything, we always felt that he must have left a hand in the old man, and in addition to this, there should be something that was not included, so we don't believe him, we think there must be exceptions, for example, what we think is solemn and sacred, and what is filthy is definitely not;The Western Elysium is not, but the five turbid and evil worlds of the Sampa World are not;Meditating and reciting sutras in a temple is the same, but selling fish and meat in the market is not.
That's how we're constantly differentiating, differentiating, and defining, so we can't see through it.
The Buddha also said that there is nothing to be gained, and most of us don't believe it, but oh, obviously I have gained, I have progressed, and I feel that I am about to achieve it. I feel like I'm superior to others, how can I say that I have gained a lot?
So people who are really thorough, they are very rare, because they don't have to think and feel themselves to do these things, they don't have to practice with theories.
So they don't doubt and they don't think they are right. Because they know that the so-called thoroughness is to recognize that there are no obstacles in the world at all, and that all obstacles are set up separately by their own distinctions.
So what happens to people who are really thorough? They are not good, what else can they do?Because they don't want to do anything, he doesn't have to do anything, they don't need to do anything, they don't want to do anything, in the end, in fact, they can do anything.
A person is thorough and accepts any opportunity, for him, the disasters that can be easily avoided will be avoided naturally, and the benefits that can be obtained normally, he will not deliberately refuse, if the disasters are inevitable, he will face them calmly without fear, if the interests have to deliberately drill into the camp to pay the moral or unpayable price of life, he will never participate in it and give up immediately.
He tried his best to play his part, waking up and dreaming his dreams, and nothing would affect him anymore.
I said, "Even if he lives in a narrow alley and a dilapidated building like yours, eats poorly every day, and dies alone and alone, is it okay?"
He said, "Do you think that a thorough man is like me?"I'm helpless to live here, people live in ** are the same, where is not home?
