Co-sponsored by China Environment Publishing Group, Sun Yat-sen University and China Society for Urban Studies, and organized by Environmental Protection Magazine, School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Sun Yat-sen University, and Guangdong Provincial Green and Low-Carbon Development Professional Committee, the "Telling China's Story of Climate Change and Global Low-carbon Cities and Urban Agglomerations Climate Governance Theme Side Event" was successfully held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, where COP28 was held, on November 30. The side event showcased China's actions and achievements in addressing climate change to the international community, and told the story of the publishing group's green communication.
In 2020, at the General Debate of the 75th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President made a commitment to peak carbon dioxide emissions and achieve carbon neutrality. It is more urgent than ever for us to tell climate stories well, convey China's voice, share China's wisdom and solutions through stories, and disseminate China's policies, actions and achievements in addressing climate change in a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive manner, and encourage more people to consciously join in the action on climate change. As the main position of ecological civilization publicity, the publishing group has always adhered to the center and served the overall situation, disseminated the best ecological civilization thought and the practical results of beautiful China to the world, practiced green and low-carbon development with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility of the times, and promoted the construction of a discourse system with Chinese characteristics and Chinese style that can be shared with all countries in the world through book publishing, digital communication, and ecological cultural activities.
In recent years, the publishing group has been guided by publishing innovation, with the responsibility of inheriting ecological culture and disseminating green and low-carbon concepts, actively responding to the "going out" strategy of Chinese culture, and carrying out in-depth cooperation with Springer Nature Group to reflect the concepts, models and achievements of China's environmental governance, and jointly launched the "Comprehensive Report on China's Long-term Low-carbon Development Strategy and Pathway (English Edition)" jointly launched by the Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development of Tsinghua University for the first time in an open access mode, providing support for the formulation and implementation of the national low-carbon development strategyand contribute wisdom to the "China story" in the global green and low-carbon development trend.

The "Climate Change Capacity Building Series" and the "China Air Pollution Causes, Control Technology and Integrated Demonstration Series" jointly compiled by the Publishing Group, the Department of Climate Change of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the National Center for Climate Change Strategy and International Cooperation were selected into the "14th Five-Year Plan" National Key Publication Publication Plan (Supplementary Project), providing strong theoretical and technical support for the dissemination of cutting-edge technologies and the promotion of climate change and environmental governance. The Group has published more than 10,000 kinds of books, including academic and theoretical works such as "Theory and Practice of Carbon Peak and Carbon Neutrality" and "Series of Research on Climate Change Response to the Belt and Road", as well as literary works such as "The Song of the Cape Heron" and "The Island Gone Away with Tears - The Story of Carbon Neutrality", as well as popular science books such as "One Minute of Carbon Pulling" and "100 Questions and Answers on the National Carbon Market", which have played an important role in improving public awareness of the ecological environment and popularizing ecological and environmental knowledge.
China is a practitioner of the "dual carbon" goal, and we need to be a doer of climate governance. For a long time, the publishing group has actively carried out green exchange activities for ecological and cultural sharing, promoted the integration and implementation of ecological culture, and carried out the "Poetry e China Tour" ecological and cultural public welfare activities in Jiangsu, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and other places. This time, the ecological and cultural brand "Tsingshan Book Corner" settled in COP28 to provide everyone with book samples and online reading experience, and realize the interconnection of Chinese and foreign ecological culture with the help of book bridges.
By undertaking the "Stories of China's Ecological Environmental Protection in the New Era" sponsored by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, we vividly reflected the historical, turning and overall changes in China's ecological and environmental protection since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. On the basis of the online ecological environment education platform - "Qingyun Publishing House", the publishing group will continue to build a network of green publishing platforms and carry out more digital resource services.
Environmental Protection magazine also brought eight issues of climate topics planned and published in recent years, covering pollution and carbon reduction in the energy and power industry, climate investment and financing pilots, carbon emission trading markets, carbon sinks and other fields, and launched an e-journal reading experience at the venue, which was exhibited together with "Environmental Education" and "China Environmental Monitoring" magazines. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Environmental Protection magazine. Based on the construction of "Ecological Cloud Think Tank", Environmental Protection Magazine will further build a comprehensive, think tank-type and integrated achievement release and knowledge service platform, carry the mission of science and technology dissemination, policy elaboration and cultural exchange, unblock more international interconnection channels, and deepen global cooperation consensus.
The side event will share the stories and cases of climate change in Beijing, Guangxi, Chongqing, Hebei, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Gansu, Ningxia and other places with friends who are concerned about climate change around the world, and start a fruitful dialogue. The "Global Cities Carbon Neutrality Progress 2023" report uses digital intelligence tools to present and analyze the carbon neutrality actions of 190 cities around the world, calling for further cross-regional and interdisciplinary cooperation among cities around the world. In particular, the conference achieved carbon neutrality and zero emissions through the purchase of carbon credits.
