On the afternoon of December 22, Zhong Nanshan, winner of the Medal of the Republic and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, went to Shenzhen People's Hospital to conduct academician rounds and jointly discuss difficult cases in the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine with the hospital.
It is reported that as early as 2015, the Shenzhen Institute of Respiratory Disease introduced the team of academician Zhong Nanshan of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health through the Shenzhen Medical and Health "Three Projects" project. Every year, Zhong Nanshan comes to Shenzhen several times to guide the work, and the "academician round" has become a brand project of Shenzhen People's Hospital. In July 2021, Zhong Nanshan was hired as the honorary director of the Shenzhen Institute of Respiratory Diseases.
In this academician round, Zhong Nanshan questioned and examined the patient Ms. Huang, and discussed and communicated with the Shenzhen doctor team on difficult cases, so as to improve the diagnosis and level of difficult cases in Shenzhen Institute of Respiratory Diseases.
After the meeting, Zhong Nanshan was also interviewed by reporters on issues of concern to the citizens. In response to the problem of how to deal with the detection of pulmonary nodules, Zhong Nanshan shared his latest research - artificial intelligence diagnosis system for pulmonary nodules. "About 30 percent of the people examined had a nodule on CT. However, not all pulmonary nodules have typical imaging findings, so there is a risk of misdiagnosis. Through our survey, we found that the rate of false resection of lung nodules in general hospitals is close to 20%. Today, we are able to reduce the false cut rate to 8% through our artificial intelligence diagnosis system for pulmonary nodules. Zhong Nanshan said.
It is reported that the artificial intelligence diagnosis system for pulmonary nodules has the functions of intelligent identification of lesions, judgment of benign and malignant lesions, gene mutations**, automatic reporting, etc., to help the accurate diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary nodules and lung tumors, and reduce the probability of misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis.
In addition, we have blood DNA testing technology, which extracts tumor DNA from the blood and performs methylation testing. At present, this technology is still being repeatedly verified, and the latest results are expected next year. Zhong Nanshan introduced that through the artificial intelligence diagnosis system of pulmonary nodules and blood DNA detection technology, the accuracy of judgment can be further improved, and its specificity and sensitivity can reach more than 93%.
Regarding the recent significant increase in patients with respiratory diseases, Zhong Nanshan believes that there are two main reasons for the high incidence of respiratory diseases, one is the conventional reason, that is, after the weather is dry and cold, the immune function of the nasal mucosa is reduced, so the virus is easy to enter the respiratory tract. The second reason is that wearing a mask for a long time will also make the autoimmune system unable to function normally, weakening the ability to resist diseases.
Unless there is a time of a pandemic, or when you go to a place where people gather, long-term wearing of a mask is not particularly recommended. Zhong Nanshan said.
