Contemporary Philanthropy is the latest book published by Shaanxi People's Publishing House. The author of the book, An Shubinjun, is a diligent, rigorous, humble and talented scholar. He was involved in philanthropy and philanthropy research with me early on. For more than ten years, he has devoted himself to philanthropy research with a solid and profound academic foundation, and has produced several important theoretical results. For example, "Contemporary Philanthropy", "Interpretation of Charity Law", "Research on Social Change and Philanthropy in Modern Shaanxi", etc. This year's publication of "Macro Philanthropy" can be called his masterpiece. It is often said in the world of calligraphy that words are like people. In fact, in the academic world, it should be the book as the person. Therefore, when reviewing a book, you cannot completely depart from the evaluation of the author of the book, especially the academic research of the humanities, after all, what the author expresses in the book is his personal thoughts. I may have been the first reader of this book, but not necessarily the person who knows it best. However, this does not prevent me from presenting my own understanding of this work.
First, "Macro Philanthropy" is an innovative work. Innovation is the driving force and lifeline of theoretical research, and the so-called academic research that follows the old theory has no value. The innovation of "Macro Philanthropy" is mainly reflected in four aspects: new topic selection, new structure, new viewpoint, and new text, and it is a research topic that has never been involved in the field of philanthropy research, providing new ideas, new methods, and new momentum for the academic and industrial circles. Standing at the forefront of the field of philanthropy research, the author conducts a longitudinal combing and horizontal review of the development of modern philanthropy in China and the existing achievements in the field of philanthropy theory in the past 30 years, selects some core issues for in-depth research, and puts forward his own unique insights. This is very innovative and academically valuable, and it deserves full affirmation and high evaluation.
Second, "Macro Philanthropy" is a masterpiece. This work examines certain theoretical issues that have not yet been touched upon or penetrated into by the philanthropic and academic communities. In recent years, I have spent a lot of time reading most of the works on charity and public welfare, both in paper and electronic versions, which have their own novelty and characteristics, which deserve recognition. However, it is basically a thematic or entry-level reading, and it is rare to see comprehensive and systematic research results, even in charity and public welfare professional textbooks. After 30 years of revival of modern philanthropy, a macro-holistic study of it should be a matter of course. Therefore, the publication of Macro Philanthropy will surely become a masterpiece in the industry, triggering the continuous improvement of the level of philanthropy research.
Third, "Macro Philanthropy" is a pragmatic work. This book has an accurate and profound research ontology, which is closely related to the actual work of charity, so that this book with remarkable academic characteristics not only expounds the basic theory of philanthropy from a macro perspective, but also highlights the practical value of charity, and has certain guiding significance for the specific work of charity practitioners. It is not an empty talk that scratches the itch in the boot and is made behind closed doors, but a model of close integration between theory and practice. In fact, the most important feature of the discipline of charity is its practicality. Philanthropic research must serve the practice of philanthropy.
Fourth, "Macro Philanthropy" is a work close to the people. The book is scholarly and very fluent, it is a flower blooming in the garden of philanthropic research, and it also provides a high-level reading material for charity workers and volunteers, which is completely understandable to the general reader. Reading this book can not only increase the knowledge of charity, cultivate quality, but also improve work ability. It has both strong professionalism and a certain degree of popularity, and must have a relatively wide readership. I appreciate pure academic research, and I also advocate targeted research that closely integrates with the actual practice of philanthropic work, one to promote the academic growth of philanthropy research, and the other to coordinate the high-quality development of philanthropic practice.
In short, Macro Philanthropy is a good book for the study of philanthropy theory and practice, with a complete structure and style, a clear context and hierarchy, in-depth analysis and discussion, a reasonable interpretation of opinions, and a rigorous and standardized logic. I hope that An Shubinjun will continue to make new achievements in his future research work, and I also look forward to the fruitful results of the Shaanxi Charity Research Park.
