80 chips are not domestic, and foreign media should not overestimate themselves

DJI's influence in the field of drones is undoubted, it not only has mastered more than 5,000 core patented technologies, but also has more than 70% of the global market share, and even about 80% of the drone market share in the United States market has been won by DJI, which can be said to be a well-deserved drone unicorn company.

DJI's outstanding performance has naturally attracted the attention of the United States and the West, after all, DJI occupies a large market share, which means that there is basically no room for development of drone companies in the United States and the West. Earlier India came up with 1Rs 6 trillion wants to independently develop the drone industry, but it is still generally not favored by the outside world.

What people didn't expect was that there was a news recently that pointed directly at DJI. It is reported that some Japanese ** recently said: After dismantling DJI drones, it was found that 80% of the chips were not made domestically, but purchased from abroad, and many of them came from American companies.

After this news came out, it also caused many people to worry, after all, Huawei had been cut off due to chip problems, resulting in mobile phone shipments**, basically losing all overseas markets. Some foreign media said: DJI should not overestimate itself.

Previously, in order to curb DJI's development, the United States included DJI in the entity list, and also restricted some departments from purchasing DJI products, in order to squeeze DJI's development space in the American market, not only took out large subsidies to promote the development of American drone companies, but also increased tariffs on DJI.

Not only that, when the American company Textron slandered DJI's patent infringement, the United States also ignored the reality and ignored all kinds of evidence submitted by DJI, directly ruled DJI patent infringement, and also demanded that DJI pay 2$800 million in fines. In the face of the U.S. behavior, DJI directly and forcefully stated: It is better to withdraw from the U.S. market than to pay the fine.

Just when many people thought that DJI would leave the U.S. market, the so-called fine of the United States was directly ignored, and then the United States lifted the ban on DJI.

In fact, it is not difficult to see from the development of these things that if the United States really has the ability to "stuck" DJI, then why would it choose to lift DJI's ban?

Judging from the recently disclosed results, about 80% of DJI's chips are not domestic, and many of them are purchased from American companies, for example, Qualcomm is one of DJI's chip suppliers, and DJI's chips in image processing, wireless communication, etc. are basically purchased from Qualcomm and other U.S. chip companies.

DJI, like Huawei, does rely on American chips, but the chips used by DJI are basically mature chips with 28nm and above processes, and these chips have been replaced by localization in China.

Why didn't DJI choose domestic chips from the beginning? Some people in the industry have analyzed this, mainly due to several factors.

First of all, when DJI began to develop, the domestic chip industry chain was still slightly backward, and there were problems such as insufficient production capacity in mature chips with 28nm and above processes. In this case, it is normal for DJI to choose foreign chips, and then after the development of the domestic chip industry chain, DJI did not immediately follow the change, after all, changing the top business may also lead to fluctuations in DJI's production capacity, at that time, DJI was rapidly expanding overseas markets, and it should reduce fluctuations as much as possible.

Secondly, DJI itself is not involved in the field of chip design, and if you want to use domestic chips to replace them, you also need to find chip design companies to cooperate, otherwise DJI will not be able to find a domestic chip that can be better replaced in a short period of time.

Finally, DJI is facing the global market, and the US market is also one of its main markets, and the use of some US chips can effectively help DJI localize and help DJI rapidly expand its US market share. Therefore, under the comprehensive consideration of many factors, DJI chose to use American chips.

Judging from the current situation, DJI has indeed adopted American chips on a large scale, but DJI also has the strength and confidence to replace them locally at any time. Therefore, DJI does not need to worry about being "stuck" by the United States in terms of chips, and it is precisely because the United States understands this that it has not tried to start with the chip field in a series of sanctions against DJI.

What's more, DJI's confidence lies in the core technologies such as self-developed flight control systems and rotor chips, which are the key technologies that American drone companies cannot leave.

Postscript:

Japanese media recently disclosed the news that 80% of the chips in DJI's drone products come from the United States, which has attracted the attention of many foreign countries, and even some foreign media said: DJI's "fig leaf" has been torn off, and you should not overestimate yourself. But in fact, in terms of chips, DJI has long been able to achieve localized substitution.
