According to the official website, Sichuan University for Nationalities is the only public undergraduate university in the Kham region, located in Kangding City and Luding County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.
Its predecessor was the Kangding National Normal College, which was founded in 1985, and in 2004, Ganzi Prefecture Agricultural School, Ganzi Prefecture Finance and Economics School, and Kangding Normal School were integrated and merged, and in 2009, it was upgraded to a full-time ordinary undergraduate university.
Kangding National Normal College
Kangding National Teachers College was founded in 1985, its history is relatively simple, originally named "Kangding National Normal College", the then general secretary of the Communist Party of China inscribed the name of the school in Chinese. In 1986, the 10th Panchen Lama Erdeni Chokyi Gyaltsen inscribed the name of the school in Tibetan.
In 1986, when the first batch of students was recruited, there were only 4 teachers in Kangding National Teachers College, and the main teaching tasks were carried out by the Provincial Education Commission from Sichuan University, Southwest University for Nationalities, Sichuan Normal University and other institutions of higher learning. After the graduation of the first batch of students, the relevant teaching tasks were changed to be undertaken by the teachers of the school.
In 1992, the school was renamed "Kangding National Normal College".
Ganzi Prefecture Agricultural School
Ganzi Prefecture Agricultural School was merged from the former Ganzi Prefecture Agricultural and Animal Husbandry School and Ganzi Prefecture Forestry Technical School.
The original Ganzi Prefecture Agricultural and Animal Husbandry School was founded in 1960 and abolished in 1962. In 1975, the state agricultural and animal husbandry school was restored, and the school site was located in Ximaqiao, Yulin Township, Kangding County.
The original Ganzi Forestry Technical School was founded in 1980 as the Luding Forestry Engineering Branch. In 1982, it was renamed Ganzi Forestry Branch. In 1983, the school was renamed Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Forestry Technical School.
Ganzi Prefecture School of Finance and Economics
Ganzi Prefecture Finance and Economics School was merged from the former Ganzi Prefecture Finance and Trade School and Ganzi Prefecture Industrial School.
The original Ganzi Prefecture Finance and Trade School was established in 1975 and is located in Guwe Town, Kangding County. In 1988, it cooperated with the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Finance and the Provincial Electric Power University to jointly hold one national economic and trade college class (Ganzi class).
The original Ganzi Prefecture Industrial School was established in 1978. At the beginning of the establishment of the school, a dormitory of Luding Chemical Plant was used as a classroom to enroll students. In the spring of 1980, he moved to Guwe Town, Kangding County.
Kangding Normal School
Kangding Normal School is the oldest of the several schools.
Going backwards, the history can probably be pushed back to the Xikang Normal Training Institute and the Kangding Women's Normal Training Institute opened in 1926, and the two schools merged in 1931. In 1935, it was changed to Xikang Provincial Kangding Normal School.
The Kangding Branch of Nanjing ** Political School, which was established around 1934, was renamed National Kangding Normal School in 1939 and changed to National Kangding Normal College in 1947.
In 1950, Kangding was liberated, and the Kangding Normal at this time had already existed in name only. In the same year, the National Kangding Normal College, the Provincial Kangding Normal School and several other schools merged to form Kangding Middle School, with a normal department.
In 1958, the new Kangding Normal School was established, and the original junior teacher class in Kangzhong School was transferred to the new Kangding Normal School.
In the spring of 1963, Ganzi Normal School merged with Kangding Normal School, and the name of the school was changed to Kangding Normal School of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.
