However, his historical story is a heated dialogue with Li Shimin.
Tang Taizong once asked Chu Suiliang: "What you recorded, can I have the honor to see it?"But Chu Suiliang's answer caught people off guard: "Forgive me, in order to record good and evil, for the responsibility of the historian, to avoid His Majesty from making mistakes." Records were not required by the emperor. Taizong asked again, "If I am at fault, do you have to record it?"Chu Suiliang did not hesitate: "The responsibilities will be recorded truthfully." This made Li Shimin quite unhappy.
Later, when Li Shimin wanted to attack Goryeo, Chu Suiliang resolutely opposed it, and quoted scriptures to admonish Li Shimin, saying that he had not heard of the emperor personally leading the army. However, Li Shimin did not listen to the advice and returned in defeat. But Li Shimin's fame is not something that can be said in words, but a real meritorious service.
Therefore, Li Shimin trusted Chu Suiliang, and even entrusted him with national affairs before his death. It is a pity that although Li Zhi trusted and reused Chu Suiliang at the beginning, Chu Suiliang strongly opposed it because of the incident of "Empress Zetian came from the nunnery", and even took off his official hat and threw down his handboard, declaring that he would "return to his hometown after telling the old man"!Li Zhi was furious and set it up, and Chu Suiliang also formed a deep enmity with Wu Zetian.
However, Wu Zetian issued an edict on his deathbed to clear Chu Suiliang and others, which showed her high recognition of Chu Suiliang's integrity and loyalty. In the fifth year of Zhenyuan Dynasty (789), Tang Dezong issued an edict to paint the portrait of Chu Suiliang on the Lingyan Pavilion, which was as famous as the founding hero of the early Tang Dynasty.
