Ideas such as ecological civilization and beautiful China are leading China's transition to a greener future. Eric Solheim, former UN Under-Secretary-General and senior adviser to the World Resources Institute, said that China has won the battle against pollution, and now occupies a significant share of the world in the fields of solar energy, wind power, hydrogen energy, and electric vehicles, and is leading the process of green and low-carbon transformation. He argues that China not only sets policy goals, but also has the technical tools to achieve them.
China has made a significant contribution not only in cleaning up the air in its cities, but also in providing solar panels and other forms of renewable energy and battery energy storage and electric vehicles to the world. Ke Ruihua, president of the Environmental Defense Fund, said that the Environmental Defense Fund recognizes the idea of "Building a Beautiful China" and is willing to make more efforts for China's response to climate change and environmental protection.
The day's event coincided with the first day of COP28. Before the opening ceremony of COP28 China Corner, Chinese and foreign guests visited the exhibition "China's Policies and Actions on Climate Change" and the Climate Action Comic Exhibition in the China Corner.
It is reported that this is the second consecutive year that the Research Center for Ecological Civilization Thought and China News Service have jointly hosted the side event of "Ecological Civilization and Beautiful China Practice" at the United Nations Climate Change Conference, aiming to tell the world the story of China's ecological civilization in the new era, show the positive progress of the construction of a beautiful China, and boost confidence in global climate governance.
The side event was organized by the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and China News Network. In order to cooperate with this side event, the two sides also jointly produced the public welfare song "Gift to the World", which was released worldwide on the 30th.
