In 1997, Chen Qingqi ended his 18-year military career, and faced with many choices when changing jobs, he resolutely chose to go to the most grassroots and dirtiest and most tired drainage pipe maintenance station, which has been done for more than 20 years. The five words "bitter, dirty, tired, dangerous and poisonous" are a vivid portrayal of drainers.
Chen Qingqi is responsible for the drainage facilities in the Xiuying jurisdiction area with a length of about 380 kilometers, 130 roads, about 19,000 manholes, 8 water accumulation points, and only 21 workers, making it the heaviest maintenance team in the drainage station. In order to ensure the smooth flow of pipelines, Chen Qingqi often leads workers to clean the sewers under the scorching sun, and as long as problems such as manhole covers and sewer blockages are found in the jurisdiction, they can be dispatched to deal with and repair them at any time 24 hours a day.
In 2010, Chen Qingqi was diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer, and the hospital ruthlessly sentenced him to "only half a year at most". Under this unimaginable pain and psychological pressure, Chen Qingqi went to Guangzhou for gastric and esophageal resection surgery, during the whole operation, there were two critical illness notices, 12 courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery, and he had to go to Guangzhou for an examination every three months, because he could not lie flat when he slept at night, he could only lie down at 45 degrees, causing him to often regurgitate and affect his sleep.
In July 2014, a time that is fresh in the memory of many Hainanese, Chen Qingqi and his colleagues fought on the front line as usual when the arrival of Super Typhoon Rammasun plunged the city into power outages and flooding. After the typhoon, Chen Qingqi immediately led the whole team to carry out an investigation on Binhai Avenue. "More than 1,000 manhole covers, even if they are counted one by one, we have to lift them one by one to remove the debris and garbage blocked in more than 1,000 wells one by one to ensure the safe passage of the city's main roads. Chen Qingqi said.
After retirement, use the residual heat to spread positive energy.
For more than 20 years, whether it is early in the morning or midnight, whether it is a typhoon or a torrential rain, as long as there is water in the road section under his jurisdiction, Chen Qingqi will rush to the scene as soon as possible, and he is always the last to leave. Now, Chen Qingqi has reached the age of retirement and left the job he loves, and he still has not given himself time to rest. In November this year, Chen Qingqi just finished the 2023 "Veteran's Heart to the Party, Construction and Engineering Free Trade Port" tour of the advanced deeds of retired soldiers, and he successively went to schools, troops, Sansha City and other places to preach.
With the theme of "Drainage Veterans Who Answer with Life", Chen Qingqi used vivid language, vivid deeds and full emotions to tell the moving story of his diagnosis of cancer until his retirement, and always stuck to the dirtiest and most tiring urban drainage work at the grassroots level.
Chen Qingqi said that as a patient with terminal cancer, his lamp of life may be extinguished at any time, but for a "drainage veteran", he is unwilling to waste his life.
