Country life has always been known for its tranquility and serenity. However, even in such a seemingly peaceful environment, disputes can arise between neighbors. This article recounts my dispute with my neighbor Wang Haitao over the construction of a house, especially about the four windows left behind by the back wall of his house. On this issue, I firmly stand on the position of protecting personal privacy and safeguarding fair interests. In this article, I will describe in detail how this dispute went through and why leaving windows would cause me and my family a problem.
The neighborhood relationship in our hutong has always been very good, especially between me and Wang Haitao, who often get together to eat and drink. However, when he decided to build a new house, the friendly atmosphere between us was shocked. Wang Haitao hurriedly built the house, wanting to complete the construction of the house before his son got married. Before the construction, he invited us, the neighbors, to dinner to make up for the inconvenience of building a house for our lives. However, during this dinner, Wang Haitao changed his original plan.
Wang Haitao initially claimed that his newly built house would only have one floor and would not affect our daylight. Based on this statement, we signed his application to build the house, which has important legal significance in our village (construction can only begin with the signed consent of the neighbors). What we didn't expect, however, was that he suddenly changed his mind while building the house. He built the house into two floors, each of which was more than three meters high. This sudden change caused dissatisfaction and concern among our neighbors, because in this way Wang Haitao's house would be taller than the others, which would block the light of our house, which would go against the original promise and appear unfair.
Faced with Wang Haitao's sudden change, I decided to find him for a theory. I thought he was acting against our agreement, so I went to him to discuss how to fix it. However, he was intransigent and refused to discuss the issue with me, even accusing me of not having the right to interfere with his freedom to build a house. This provoked my anger and I told him that if he didn't make a compromise, I would take action to stop his construction.
Wang Haitao turned a deaf ear to my threats, and he even beat me directly despite my objections. In response, I kicked him with my foot. The two of us scuffled like that.
However, what I didn't expect was that Wang Haitao's wife also joined the fight. With the cooperation of the two of them, I was almost powerless to fight back against the attacks of the two men. Eventually, I was defeated by them.
After being defeated by them, I was not willing to fail, and when I got home, I chose to block the traffic in the alley. Wang Haitao's house is not finished yet, and if I block the road, he will not be able to continue construction. In addition, I installed a camera to monitor the entire alley to prevent him from vandalizing my vehicle.
In the face of my resolute stance and the actions I took, Wang Haitao finally realized the seriousness of the problem. He apologized to me and promised to block the windows of his house and planned to redesign the house so that our lighting and privacy would not be affected. After I confirmed that he was willing to solve the problem, I also cleared the blockage of the road and allowed life to return to normal.
First, windows can be an invasion of our privacy. If Wang Haitao's window were directly facing our house, our lives would not be protected. We feel uneasy about being watched and can't live freely in our own homes.
Second, leaving windows will affect our daylight. Wang Haitao's house is high, and if the windows are directly facing our house, it will block our sunlight. This will lead to darkening of the interior of our home and a reduced quality of life.
Third, the protection of equitable interests is an important principle. In a rural community, neighbors are interdependent and should be treated as equals. In the process of building the house, Wang Haitao clearly violated the original promise and the principle of fairness. We cannot tolerate such unfair treatment, so I chose to dispute him.
Despite living in the countryside, there are also disputes between neighbors. This article describes my dispute with my neighbor Wang Haitao over his house, and why leaving windows would cause me and my family a problem. Protecting personal privacy and safeguarding fair interests is my firm position, and in the end, the problem was resolved through confrontation and concessions. It is hoped that such disputes can arouse more people's attention to and maintenance of neighborhood relations.
