On December 10th, Shanghai Joint Bookstore held a new book launch conference entitled "Awakening Conscience: The Wisdom of Yangmingxue - The Unfolding of Conscience: Wang Longxi and Yangmingxue in the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty (Expanded Edition)" at the Xingang branch of Xueeryou Bookstore in Guangzhou.
In the past 20 years, Professor Peng Guoxiang's The Unfolding of Conscience: Wang Longxi and the Yangming Studies of the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty has become a must-read for understanding Wang Longxi and the development of Yangming Studies in the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty. In November of this year, Shanghai Joint Publishing launched its latest edition.
The authors of this book, Peng Guoxiang, Qiushi Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University, Chen Lisheng and Professor Zhang Weihong of the Department of Philosophy of Sun Yat-sen University, were invited to focus on the wisdom of Yangmingxue and the significance of the reprint of the book. The press conference was presided over by Huang Tao, editor-in-chief of Shanghai Joint Bookstore.
Yangmingxue has been gradually rediscovered since the 90s of the last century, and it has become a prominent science in the 21st century. The purpose of this sharing session is to enable scholars and readers to share the significance of Chinese philosophy to today's life.
Professor Peng Guoxiang has conducted in-depth research on ancient Chinese philosophy, Confucianism, especially Yangming. From a historical perspective, he reveals to readers the evolution and development of Yangming Studies in the Middle and Late Ming Dynasties, and the essence and wisdom of it.
The Unfolding of Conscience Studies" takes Wang Longxi, the core figure of the middle and late Ming and Yang Ming studies, as a sample, comprehensively and thoroughly examines his philosophical thoughts, and then expands to the overall context of the middle and late Ming and Yang Ming studies, and its ideological connotation and development clues, which not only conducts specialized and detailed case studies, but also grasps the development of the history of philosophical thought in the stage with the problem as the center, and makes the two support each other and organically combine, so that the rich ideological content of the middle and late Ming and Yang Ming studies has been deeply and clearly displayed.
At the event, Professor Peng Guoxiang reviewed the process of Yangmingxue gradually being valued in contemporary times, and he was particularly interested in Chinese philosophy due to his family influence and personal preferences.
However, Yangmingxue is not Wang Yangming's doctrine alone, but also defined by his first, second, and even third generations. And Wang Longxi, as Wang Yangming's personal biography**, is very distinctive, he has a lifespan of 86 years old, and has witnessed the whole process of Yangmingxue from the rise to the climax at that time.
At that time, almost all the important debates were centered on him, or at least related to him, so later scholars sorted out the entire Yangming school of the middle and late Ming Dynasty through the study of Wang Longxi. This doctor** also won the National Outstanding Doctor** award at that time.
The guests also highlighted the commonalities between Eastern and Western philosophies: Yangmingxue, as a philosophical thought, has a value that transcends national boundaries and cultures.
Chinese philosophy is classified relative to the Western philosophical system, which includes the three major philosophical schools of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. They carried out the connotation of Wang Yangming's thought and the relationship between Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, as well as the core concepts of "benevolence is the heart of heaven", "heart is the Tao" and "the unity of knowledge and action", and interpreted Wang Yangming's thought from multiple angles.
Readers and guests actively interacted with each other, integrating academic perspectives into daily perspectives, and interpreting the practical significance of Yangmingxue for readers. The participants discussed the differences between law and philosophy in regulating human behavior, the significance of science and philosophy, and other topics of concern to young people.
In his final summary, Huang Tao said that Wang Yangming's thought has an important enlightening role in the development and progress of contemporary society. "Today, we are 'free' from country to country and in different schools of thought, how can our impetuous hearts be settled?Many of the longing thoughts of the heart may be answered and revealed in this book. ”
