Yesterday (December 27), the short drama "Seven Two People's Life" held a screening salon in Beijing. The play is the first virtual production short drama in China, which was shot with LED virtual screen as the studio. It is reported that the film will be launched on Douyin on January 3, 2024.
There are 16 episodes in the whole drama, and the total duration of the feature film is 90 minutes. The story of the play revolves around a child kidnapping case, and the unconscious man, pregnant woman, doctor, and elderly woman ......"Of the seven suspects, only one can live", who is the real murderer? At the beginning of the story, the city in the rainstorm, the high-speed cable car, the mother who lost her daughter and lost control of her emotions, and the dodging ...... each suspect in the face of questioningThe director used only a few shots to crochet a suspenseful web, making the hearts of all the audience go up and down like that crumbling cable car.
In addition to the exciting storyline, one of the biggest attractions of the film is the "virtual production" method that integrates virtual reality and live-action shooting, such as the panoramic view of the buildings in the rainstorm in the play, the picture of the cable car facing the fall, and the rapid transformation of different scene spaces. It is understood that virtual production is to use LED virtual studios instead of real scenes. In the past, virtual production was mainly widely used in large-scale film productions, and a small number of film and television drama applications were also concentrated in long-form dramas. "If we do a show of this caliber in the traditional way, the special effects time may be 10 months longer, and the cost will be doubled, and through virtual production technology, it can bring a huge efficiency improvement. Xie Duosheng, the chief director and chairman of Chuangyi Technology, said in the post-screening salon.
In order to better present the virtual city background outside the high-altitude cable car, the film was shot in landscape mode. "It's the first time I've watched a short drama that uses UE5 to build a film scene", Liu Shuo, associate professor of the directing department of the School of Drama, Film and Television of Communication University of China, believes that the whole film "makes the texture of a movie", and the production method of "virtual production" "deepens the plot tension of the suspense story itself and creates an audio-visual feast of 'technology into reality'".
As a new thing in the content track, short dramas carry the trend of technical production in the film and television industry. Chuangyi Technology, the producer of "Seven Two Lives", has created the phenomenal IP "Liu Yexi" on the whole network, and the short drama "Liu Yexi" starring virtual humans ยท After six episodes were broadcast on Douyin, the volume exceeded 300 million, driving the creation of a series of "metaverse" label themes in the field of micro-short dramas, showing the possibility of technology intervening in science fiction and fantasy themes. For the development direction of the content and theme of short dramas, the Chuangyi team believes that the various theme types that have appeared in movies and long dramas in the past may be "short dramas" by professional teams in the future, and the production cycle of short dramas is shorter, and it can be more closely integrated with the hot issues of the current society.
