Biden, who is seeking re-election, lags behind his former Trump in Michigan as American voters remain pessimistic about the economy, according to the results of a poll by Morning Consult.
In the Nov. 27-Dec. 5 poll, Trump was ahead of Biden's 42% with 46 percentIn the polls in October and early November, the two were tied. But Trump's lead is still within the margin of error of 4 percentage points.
Monthly polls show that the lawsuit-ridden Trump outranks Biden in all seven key swing states.
Biden lost the support of suburban Michigan women and voters ages 18 to 34. Although he was the first incumbent to join the picket line in support of the United Autoworkers**, polls show that Biden's relationship with union members has not improved to help him win against Trump.
Losing Michigan's hopes for Biden's re-election would be devastating. In 2020, he defeated Trump in Michigan by 154,188 votes. Michigan was also crucial for Trump in 2016**, when he narrowly won the long-term Democratic stronghold by a narrow margin of 10,000 and 704 votes, as well as Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
Inflation appears to be weighing on women's approval ratings for Biden. Miller, an associate professor of business economics and public policy at the Ross School of Business in Michigan, said women typically go to the grocery store more often than men, and they have a deeper sense of the necessities of life.
Carolyn Bye, vice president of Morning Consult, said: "Overall, women are less satisfied with the economy, the way they do their day-to-day goods and services, and seem to feel that the economy is hitting them harder. ”
