"New Home Syndrome" is also known as "Building Syndrome", which is a rather abstract foreign term.
As early as the 70s of the 20th century, after the outbreak of energy crisis in developed countries in Europe and the United States, in the new office buildings, commercial buildings and residential buildings, in order to save energy consumption, increase the airtightness and thermal insulation performance of the building, resulting in a reduction in the ventilation in the building, thereby reducing the air dilution capacity and aggravating indoor air pollution, this kind of building is collectively called"New Home Syndrome".
1. Causing "new home syndrome".
Indoor air pollution**
1. Due to the different building materials used in various buildings, the pollutants they produce are also different. At present, the building materials used mainly include metal materials, non-metallic materials, and some synthetic materials. Some materials contain toxic and harmful substances, according to statistics, the types of gaseous pollutants produced by various decoration surface materials are as high as hundredsIt mainly contains chemical pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, xylene, ammonia, total volatile organic compounds, and radon.
2. With the social and economic development and the progress of science and technology, new buildings will generally be equipped with HVAC facilities, if the design and construction of these equipment are not reasonable, the management and maintenance are not timely, or the indoor fresh air volume is lacking, it may induce "sick building syndrome".
3. Microbial pollutants such as bacteria and fungi generated in the indoor environment, as well as chemical pollutants such as carbon dioxide and inhalable particulate matter produced by human metabolism during human life, will also be difficult to emit due to the good airtightness of the building.

Health Impacts
People who live in such buildings for a long time will have varying degrees of physical symptomsThe main symptoms are: tingling sensation in the eyes, nose and throat.
Some people will feel fatigue, memory loss, dizziness, headache, fever, etcAsthma, hypersensitivity pneumonitisand other diseases.
During outbreaks of respiratory infectious diseases, due to the poor ventilation conditions of such buildings,It is more conducive to the spread of respiratory infectious diseases
3. Countermeasures for "New Home Syndrome".
1. Control pollution sources
Pay attention to the choice of materials when decorating and adding furniture, and advocate the use of green materials. Absorbents, sealants, etc. are used to control the release of pollutants. Be cautious with chemicals such as detergents, pesticides, and paints. Controls indoor temperature and humidity to reduce the growth of mold and bacteria.
2. Improve ventilation facilities
1) Mechanical ventilation: In the case of excellent outdoor air quality level and suitable temperature and humidity, indoor air quality can be improved by natural ventilation methods such as opening doors and windows.
2) Centralized air conditioning and ventilation: Generally, under the premise of not affecting the comfort of the human body, it is recommended that the temperature be set at 19-24 and the humidity should be set at 40%-50%.In addition, the air conditioner can be operated alternately for a period of time with high temperature (much greater than 30) and low temperature (much lower than 20) for a certain period of time, so as to sanitize harmful microorganisms in the air conditioning ductPlaces with conditions can use fresh air systems, and reasonable installation and use of exhaust equipment to improve indoor and outdoor air exchange.
3. Air purification and treatment
Air purification treatment technologies emerge in an endless stream, including filtration technology, negative ion technology, low-temperature plasma technology, photocatalytic purification technology, adsorption technology and bioengineering technology, etc., which can be selected according to the actual situation, so as to achieve the purpose of purifying indoor air.
