Finance Associated Press, December 14 (edited by Niu Zhanlin). On Wednesday local time, the American technology giant Google announced that it would provide its cloud customers with a series of upgraded artificial intelligence tools to challenge the large model GPT-4 of rival OpenAI.
Google says the Gemini Pro model is now integrated into two key cloud products, Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, and is available for enterprises to use in development. Gemini is Google's largest and most powerful multimodal AI model, and it is also Google's latest attempt to demonstrate the power of artificial intelligence.
Google Cloud customers can use Gemini to create applications such as AI chatbots, easy-to-query databases, and marketing presentations. The company also highlighted that Gemini Pro will be available to cloud customers for free at launch, but some restrictions will be imposed.
The company said the ultimate plan is to ensure that its AI cloud offerings are "competitive". Currently, Gemini Pro's text-based capabilities cost 4x less to input and 2x lower to output than its previous-generation AI model, Palm 2, released in June.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian claims that the AI model is designed to "generalize, understand, and manipulate different types of information, including text, audio, images, and more, in the same way that humans see, hear, read, listen, and talk about different types of information at the same time."
While Google is a pioneer in generative AI, its products lag far behind ChatGPT in popularity. Last week, Google tried to refute this claim by releasing Gemini.
Gemini models can be divided into three versions: Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano according to their size. Google says the most powerful version of Gemini Ultra outperformed OpenAI's GPT-4 technology in a series of tests conducted according to industry standards. After testing with a select group of customers, the release is expected to be widely available to software developers early next year.
And Wednesday's upgraded Google AI Studio, a free web-based developer tool that Google calls "the fastest way to build apps," allows customers to develop apps using Gemini APIs.
At the same time, Vertex AI offers more customization for developers and cloud clients. Businesses will be able to customize Gemini with their own data and build applications such as Gemini-based search tools and chatbots.
Kurian said Gemini Pro pricing is becoming "more attractive", with developers being able to use Gemini Pro and Gemini Pro Vision for free through Google AI Studio, which is suitable for most app development needs, while Vertex AI is free until early next year.
In addition, Google has also updated the upgraded model Imagen 2 for text creation, enhancing the realism, text rendering, and logo generation capabilities of the generation**.
The company also announced a global partnership with Mistral AI, a Paris-based AI startup focused on open-source software. Mistral AI will distribute some AI products, including optimized proprietary language models, on Google Cloud, the companies said in a blog post.
