In November 2023, the Saudi Electricity Procurement Company (SPPC) launched the fifth round of the procurement process for the Saudi National Renewable Energy Program, issuing a new batch of pre-qualification invitations for four solar power plant projects.

Since 2017, Saudi Arabia has made more than 6 public tenders6 GW of renewable energy capacity, of which about 44 GW (66% of the total capacity tendered) for photovoltaic solar initiatives. By 2030, SPPC will procure 58 percent of Saudi Arabia's installed renewable energy capacity7 GW of 30% of the target.

In September 2022, the UAE** approved a new plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from the original target of 235% to 31%. By 2030, the share of solar energy in Dubai's energy mix is expected to increase from the current 5% to 15%. In addition, with the acceleration of urbanization and the growing population, the market demand for off-grid solar lighting systems in Dubai is also growing. For example, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority plans to build 1,000 off-grid solar lighting systems at Maktoum Solar Park to meet the growing demand for residential electricity.
