In the early days, the people who prepared for the establishment of the party were all young people, and there was no income, and the money earned by teaching and writing articles by Chen Duxiu, Li Dazhao, etc., for propaganda and organization was far from enough, so the problem of funds became a big problem at the beginning of the founding of the Communist Party of China.
In 1920, the Shanghai branch was established, and at the beginning of the 21st century, the Guangdong branch was established. After the establishment of the party organization, it faced the problem of funding. The Party's propaganda publications had to be suspended, and the work of enlightening and educating the workers had to be suspended.
Even so, Chen Duxiu still advocated independence and opposed accepting financial assistance from the Comintern. He once said at the branch meeting: "Party members should work and carry out revolution at the same time, our Party has no work at the moment, it is useless to ask for money, the revolution must rely on its own strength to do its best, we cannot ask for money from the Third International." "We can't ask for other people's money, and if we take other people's money, we have to go with them, we must do it independently and not be controlled by others." In short, I don't want to be led by others. ”
On June 3, 1921, Marin, a representative of the Comintern, arrived in Shanghai. At that time, Chen Duxiu was in Guangdong, and the secretaries Li Da and Li Hanjun rejected Ma Lin's proposal to join the Comintern and provide funds according to Chen Duxiu's wishes.
At Ma Lin's urging, the Shanghai party branch issued a circular to the whole country, asking all localities to send two delegates to Shanghai to attend the "First National Congress." In order to prevent the delegates from all over the country from delaying their participation in the meeting because of the problem of travel expenses, Ma Lin sent 100 yuan to each delegate at the same time as sending an invitation letter, and he also sent letters and telegrams on several occasions asking Chen Duxiu to return to Shanghai to attend the "First Congress" meeting, and even sent Bao Huiseng to Guangdong to pick up Chen Duxiu. However, because Chen Duxiu was also the president of the pre-university department, he was trying to win a sum of money to repair the school building, so he appointed Bao Huiseng to attend the "First National Congress" on his behalf.
In September 1921, on his way back to Shanghai, Chen Duxiu told Bao Huiseng about the Comintern, "We don't need to rely on it." "It is up to the Chinese to organize the party themselves, and the Chinese revolution depends on the Chinese to do it themselves. ”
In response to Marin has publicly stated"Over the past year, the Third International has spent more than 200,000 yuan in China, and the Chinese comrades have made such achievements that the Chinese comrades have been too inert."。Chen Duxiu immediately clashed with Marin and refuted:"Half of us have used so much that half of them are the representatives of the Third International who take themselves to live in bungalows and eat bread, how to slander others. ”
During his talks with Chen Duxiu, Ma Lin said that the Chinese Party should listen to the Comintern. Chen Duxiu said: "The Chinese revolution has China's national conditions, and at present it does not need international economic assistance, and the work of the CPC does not need to rely on the international community in everything, and we have our independence." ”
October 4, 1921, Chen Duxiu**. All walks of life have organized rescues. On October 26, the court sentenced Chen Duxiu to knowingly possess the magazine "New Youth" and fined him 500 taels to close the case. Later, Chen Duxiu learned that he was able to get out of prison so quickly and smoothly, in addition to the rescue from all walks of life, Marin also made a lot of efforts, spent a lot of money to open up various joints, and invited the famous French lawyer Ba He to appear in court to defend him.
Chen Duxiu said to Bao Huiseng: "If it weren't for his rescue, this case would not have been concluded smoothly soon." I'm going to go and thank Marin in person. Ma Lin said: "All the work of the Chinese Party is completely under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and as a representative of the Comintern, I only maintain regular contact with the top responsible person of the Communist Party of China. ”
Chen Duxiu said: "The CCP supports the Comintern and should respect the policy suggestions of its representatives. After that, Chen Duxiu's relationship with Ma Linjing improved, and the CCP discussed the method of accepting Comintern subsidies, and from then on, the CCP accepted the leadership and financial assistance of the Comintern.
