Dai Yi (September 10, 1926 - January 24, 2024), formerly known as Dai Bingheng, was a native of Changshu, Jiangsu, and a famous Chinese historian. He has had a profound influence in the field of Qing history research and is known as the founder of the discipline of Qing history in New China. Professor Dai Yi has served as the director of the Institute of Qing History of the Chinese University, the director of the National Qing History Compilation Committee, and the librarian of the ** Literature and History Research Museum.

Personal Experience:

In 1944, he was admitted to the Railway Management Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

In 1946, he transferred to the Department of History of Peking University.

In 1948, he entered North China University (the predecessor of Chinese Renmin University) and stayed on to teach.

In 1950, after the establishment of Chinese University, he successively worked in the Teaching and Research Department of Chinese Revolutionary History, the Chinese History Research Office, the Qing History Research Group, and the Qing History Research Institute.

In 1956, he was named associate professor.

In 1978, after the resumption of the National People's Congress, he was appointed to establish the Qing History Research Institute.

In 1981, he became one of the first batch of doctoral supervisors in China approved by the Academic Degree Committee.

In 2002, he served as the director of the National Committee for the Compilation of Qing History.

In 2009, he was appointed as one of the first first-class professors of Chinese People's University (later converted to honorary first-class professors).

Director of the National Commission for the Compilation of Qing History (since 2002).

Social Appointments:

The editor-in-chief of "Concise History of the Qing Dynasty" is the first work in China to systematically and comprehensively study the history of the Qing Dynasty before the Opium War under the guidance of Marxist historical materialism.

He is the chief editor of the Qing Dynasty and the General History of China, as well as the nine-volume China and the World in the Eighteenth Century.

He has published historical monographs such as "Emperor Qianlong and His Times" and selected essays, such as "Frost Collection", "Fanlu Collection", "Yubing Collection", etc.

He led and completed the compilation of the newly revised History of the Qing Dynasty, which is one of the most important national cultural projects since the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Awards:

He was rated as an advanced worker on the higher education front and a model worker in the national education system.

Received the Wu Yuzhang Lifetime Achievement Award.

Won the first Golden Globe Award of the Hong Kong Pennington China Education Association.

Awarded the Order of Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam.
