Mondo Social Updated on 2024-02-05

This membership card was issued in 1923 and is a historical witness to the 27 Strike.

The 1923 Jinghan Railway Workers' Strike was the first nationwide workers' movement under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the precursor of our Party's class struggle, and had far-reaching historical significance, laying the foundation for the later workers' movement.

On February 1, 1923, the Jinghan Railway Trade Union Federation was held in Zhengzhou, and the meeting was blocked by the Beiyang warlord Wu Peifu by force, and the venue was destroyed. The General Labor Union was forced to move to the Han River. Under the leadership of the Communist Party, the railway workers, in order to resist the atrocities of the warlords, decided to hold a strike of railway workers in Beijing and Hanzhou on February 4. After the strike began, the Jinghan Railway was completely paralyzed. On February 7, the Beiyang warlord Wu Peifu colluded with the imperialists to suppress the workers who had struck along the railway. Fifty-two people were killed, and more than 1,000 people were killed, and more than 1,000 early party members were killed, which is the famous Erqi**.

Zhengzhou Erqi Memorial Tower, built in 1971, is to commemorate this historical event, and is now a national key modern cultural relics protection unit.

The Wuhan History Museum treasures a commemorative medal of the 27th Strike, that is, the Jiang'an Jinghan Railway Trade Union membership card, which is already a national first-class cultural relic, and this commemorative medal is a membership card issued by the Federation of Trade Unions when it was established.

I also have a membership card that is close to his, but it is slightly different from the one on it. My pendant is single-nosed, with no decoration on either side. It has a diameter of 36 mm and is made of brass. On the front is the words "Jiang'an Jinghan Railway Trade Union Membership Card", and in the middle there is an early Chinese railway mark - a flywheel with two wings. There are four words around it: "Labor is sacred". There are straight stripes under the text on the surface pattern of the trade union card. The production is simple, dignified and generous. The back has a production date of 1923. At that time, less than 3,000 pieces of this union card were produced, and due to loss and damage, there are very few stocks at present, and it has high commemorative significance and collection value.
