Recently, Hyundai Mobis unveiled the Mobion concept car to the outside world at the 2024CES (Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show) exhibition. It is understood that Hyundai Mobis is the largest auto parts company in South Korea and the seventh largest auto parts supplier in the world, which belongs to Hyundai-Kia Group.
It is reported that the Mobion Concept is equipped with the e-Corner system, which enables the car to achieve a steering angle of 90° on all four wheels. This means that the mobion concept car can be rotated in a fixed circle. Lee Seung-Hwan, Senior Head of Engineering and Vice President of Hyundai Mobis, said, "Mobion is the embodiment of Hyundai Mobis' core technologies, and the technologies currently on display are ready for immediate mass production. Hyundai Mobis has always been committed to changing the way vehicles move, and we are showcasing our key products and capabilities by creating Mobion. ”
According to Hyundai Mobis, the Mobion concept is based on the Hyundai IONIQ 5. In order to achieve sideways, diagonal driving and pivot rotation, the four wheels of the new car are individually controlled, that is, the drive motor is placed in each wheel, which is officially called the e-corner system.
In addition to the e-corner system, the Mobion Concept is also equipped with an autonomous driving system, with two short-range ranging lidars and one long-range lidar. Among them, the short-range lidar is located near the headlights of the new car, and the long-range lidar is on the front face of the new car. It is reported that this arrangement will help to improve the recognition of the system, especially in the process of moving such as diagonal lane changes, the sensing will be more sensitive.
It is understood that Hyundai Mobis has completed road tests of the driving ability of the e-corner system worldwide in 2023. This means that the core technologies such as the e-corner system installed in the Mobion Concept can be mass-produced. In the future, these core technologies may be installed in the production models of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors.
