The festive taste of the Spring Festival in the Year of the Dragon has not faded, and a variety of respiratory pathogens such as influenza, rhinovirus, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae have been superimposed, resulting in a surge in the number of pediatric visits, and Deng Wanjun, a pediatrician at Nanhai District Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Foshan City, has also started to be busy after the Spring Festival. Deng Wanjun has 14 years of experience in pediatric diagnosis and treatment, and won the first prize for her outstanding performance in the 2023 Nanhai District Employee Labor and Skills Competition Children's Accidental Injury Treatment Project Skills Competition.
Relentless pursuit of protecting children's health
In her career, she has come across many touching cases of accidental child injuries.
When a family was on a family outing, the grandfather handed the child a bottle of glass of water, and the child mistakenly thought it was a drink and drank it all. Fortunately, the mother noticed it in time and rushed the child to the hospital. Deng Wanjun quickly made a judgment according to the parent's description, and immediately gave gastric lavage, rehydration, stomach protection and other treatments, but fortunately the treatment was timely and appropriate, and did not cause a major impact on the child.
This makes me deeply aware that many accidental injuries can be avoided, and parents need to pay more attention to accidental injuries to children, such as drowning, trauma, burns, misinges, foreign bodies, snake bites, etc., as long as parents take preventive measures in advance, they can effectively avoid adverse consequences for children. Deng Wanjun said.
As a doctor, my duty is to do my best to let every patient I handle be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible. Every day, Deng Wanjun travels between the inpatient department and the outpatient department, carefully rounding the ward in the morning, handling the doctor's orders and medical records of newly admitted and critically ill children, and patiently consulting 35-40 children in the outpatient clinic in the afternoon. Her requirements for herself are simple but firm: "I just want every child to get the best and go home safely and healthily." ”
Deng Wanjun is not only proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of common and frequent diseases in children, but also has in-depth research in children's respiratory, digestive, severe diseases and other diseases.
Improve teamwork and systematic evaluation
In recent years, the Nanhai District Federation of Trade Unions has actively promoted activities such as employee skills training, skills competitions, and job training. In order to comprehensively improve the ability of pediatric medical personnel in Nanhai District in the treatment of accidental injuries of children, the District Federation of Trade Unions held a skills competition for the treatment of accidental injuries of children.
In the competition, Deng Wanjun showed excellent professionalism and the ability to calmly respond to various emergency situations, and was able to quickly systematically evaluate the simulated cases of child drowning, drug mising, insect bites, and head injuries, accurately identify the first class of accidental injuries, and take effective and targeted first aid measures.
The union provides us with an excellent communication platform, which helps us to improve the level of first aid, especially teamwork and systematic assessment. Deng Wanjun said that in children's first aid, professional assessment and judgment of medical staff and efficient teamwork are very important.
Pediatrics is a "high-risk" department. Children often have a sudden and rapid progression of their illness, and they are often unable to accurately describe their symptoms and feelings because of their age. This undoubtedly poses a huge challenge to the doctor's diagnosis. For this reason, pediatrics is also known as "dumb medicine". Faced with this challenge, doctors need to rely on parents' descriptions, combined with careful observations.
Through the skills competition, we have improved our ability to identify and deal with emergencies, especially in the case of limited medical resources, doctors need to master more efficient treatment skills. Deng Wanjun said that the competition not only enhanced the attention of medical staff to first aid skills, but also promoted everyone to learn, practice and apply relevant knowledge through the form of the competition, and improved the ability of first aid to better deal with various accidental injuries of children and provide a strong guarantee for the safety of children.
