On February 16, local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau and head of the Communist Party of China, met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi said that the world situation has become more chaotic and uncertainties and instability have increased significantly, and China and the EU, as stabilizing forces in the world, should work together to address the challenges. Recently, China and the EU have resumed exchanges at all levels and achieved positive results. The two sides need to respect each other's core concerns, adhere to the principle of partnership and win-win cooperation, prepare for the next China-EU summit, give full play to the role of dialogue mechanisms in strategic, economic and trade, green and digital fields, strengthen cooperation in climate change and artificial intelligence, create highlights of people-to-people exchanges, provide more convenience for people-to-people exchanges between the two sides, and push forward the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership.

Borrell said that China's development is admirable and conforms to the logic of history. EU-China relations are well developed, and although there is competition, cooperation can and should be strengthened. I support the development of EU-China relations, support normal economic and trade exchanges between the EU and China, advocate the proper management of differences between the two sides, and oppose "decoupling" from China. The EU will continue to pursue the one-China policy. We stand ready to strengthen cooperation with China on multilateral affairs and jointly address global challenges such as climate change.

Wang Yi said that both China and the EU advocate multilateralism, and we are ready to work with the EU to promote an equal and orderly multipolar world, so that every country can have its own place in the global multipolar system, promote economic globalization that benefits all and all, and make the cake of cooperation bigger to achieve common development and prosperity.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and the Gaza conflict. (Reporter Tao Ye).
