Xu Guangping gave birth to Lu Xun's son, and his last words were not to be buried with him

In 1968, Xu Guangping died of a heart attack. When she was dying, she held the hand of her son Zhou Haiying and expressed her last wish with tears in her eyes: "Don't be buried with my husband, scatter my ashes everywhere." ”

Although Xu Guangping and Lu Xun have gone through a long road of life together, why is she unwilling to be buried with Lu Xun? Perhaps, when we understand her story, we can understand her choice.

Xu Guangping was born in 1898 in Panyu, Guangdong, to a wealthy family, including his grandfather as governor of Zhejiang Province and his cousin who co-founded the Whampoa Military Academy.

In that feudal era, Xu Guangping was fortunate to receive a good education, which gave her the opportunity to get in touch with new ideas. It was these new ideas that led her to meet her spiritual mentor, Lu Xun.

Three days after Xu Guangping was born, her father mistakenly married her to someone else at a party, which could have been taken as a joke, but the other party took it seriously, and Xu's father had to fulfill the marriage contract.

However, Xu Guangping resolutely objected, and finally ended the farce after Xu's father lost a large amount of money. In school, Xu Guangping had excellent grades and was among the best many times. In 1922, she was admitted to Beijing Women's Normal College, and began to read Lu Xun's "History of China" in her sophomore year.

Since then, she has been deeply fascinated by Lu Xun, and in order to get close to him, she will go to the classroom in advance to occupy a seat every time she takes Lu Xun's class. Lu Xun's classes were lively and interesting, which made her like Lu Xun even more, and she was very active in every class.

In March 1925, when a movement broke out against the remarks of President Yang Yinyu at the Women's Normal University, Xu Guangping, as a student representative, wrote a letter to Lu Xun, whom she admired, for help.

She said: "Mr. Lu Xun, I am writing to you now from a student ...... who has admired you for a long time”

Xu Guangping wrote the letter, full of expectations. She walked through the streets and alleys of Shanghai, through the hustle and bustle of the crowd, and put the letter into the mailbox, full of anticipation. At first, she didn't expect much from Lu Xun's response, however, she was deeply moved by Lu Xun's quick response.

Since then, the two have exchanged letters more frequently, covering topics ranging from work to personal love life. Their relationship transcends the boundaries of teachers and students and becomes an important pillar in each other's lives, caring for each other, comforting each other, and secretly emotionally speaking.

Although Xu Guangping's love for Lu Xun was warm and bold, Lu Xun felt confused and guilty because of the age gap and the fact that he was married. However, Xu Guangping didn't care about this, she confessed to Lu Xun: "Sir, don't you understand my heart? ”

Lu Xun's answer was full of helplessness: "I have all kinds of shortcomings, I'm afraid I will insult you." Despite this, their relationship is deep and genuine.

In the face of Lu Xun's refusal, Xu Guangping did not give up, but strengthened his determination to be with him. She knew that Lu Xun's marriage was not happy, and she also understood that he had a deep love for her, and she only hoped to spend the rest of her life with him.

Finally, an opportunity came, and in 1925, Xu Guangping was expelled for his campaign against President Yang, and there was nowhere to go. Lu Xun took the initiative to invite her to stay at home temporarily, and they began to live together.

On weekdays, the two work and live together, and their relationship gradually warms up. In 1927, they made their relationship public. However, Beiyang** ordered Lu Xun to be arrested, and he was forced to flee Beijing and go to Guangzhou to teach.

Xu Guangping, who was concerned about love, gave up everything in Beijing without hesitation, followed Lu Xun to Guangzhou, and found a job as an assistant at the school. The life of the two is sweet and happy.

Soon after, they ushered in a little life, Xu Guangping was pregnant, and they were looking forward to the birth of this child.

When Xu Guangping was admitted to the hospital in September 1929, the doctor noticed that the baby's heartbeat was irregular, and nervously asked if he wanted to protect the adult. Lu Xun replied without hesitation: "Lord Bao!" ”

He comforted Xu Guangping and said, "Don't be afraid, everything will be fine." In the end, there was a false alarm, and the mother and son were safe. Lu Xun smiled and said to Xu Guangping: "It's a boy, it's really naughty!" ”

In the past 12 days, Lu Xun has been by Xu Guangping's side and never abandoned. After Xu Guangping was discharged from the hospital, their lives gradually returned to normal.

Lu Xun's busy work limited the time for Xu Guangping to get together, but he would always chat with Xu Guangping for a few minutes before going to bed, and sometimes even propose to smoke a cigarette with her when she was about to fall asleep.

In this plain and happy life, they will talk about national events or friends and students, and sometimes they will rise, and Lu Xun will smoke another cigarette. Despite the dull days, they cherish every moment of togetherness.

However, the financial difficulties have doubled the pressure on Xu Guangping's life. She not only has to take care of the children, but also takes care of Lu Xun's daily chores, and she can't go out to work.

Lu Xun's students and friends often came to the house for dinner, and Xu Guangping handled the meals for seven or eight people alone. She was busy in firewood, rice, oil and salt every day, and the once cheerful and intellectual girl gradually disappeared, replaced by a housewife who was immersed in housework, and a little gray hair was added to her temples.

Despite the hardships of life, they persevered.

When the two people's shared life experiences gradually smoothed out their initial mutual attraction, the relationship between them also faded. One evening, while Xu Guangping was preparing dinner at home, Xiao Hong suddenly visited and made a few leek boxes to express her gratitude.

Xiao Hong's leek box was appreciated by Lu Xun, and he ate a few in one go. Xu Guangping reminded Lu Xun to control the intake of fried food, but Lu Xun expressed dissatisfaction with this, believing that he needed to respect the kindness of his guests.

Xu Guangping felt aggrieved because her cooking was hard and unhygienic, and she even suffered from Lu Xun's complaints. At the same time, their small family is already financially strapped to not only pay for various expenses, but also to provide better nutrition for their children and subsidize the family, so Xu Guangping can only cut back on food and clothing to make ends meet.

She was reluctant to buy new clothes, and only sewed patches on old clothes. When the child was full moon, she made a cheongsam out of the quilt given by a friend.

This cheongsam is the only one in Lu Xun and Xu Guangping's marriage, although the texture is not superior, but it has become the highlight of her future life. In 1936, Lu Xun was seriously ill, and Xu Guangping was by his side day and night, but there was another woman's ** next to his pillow, the woman in it was wearing a long skirt and a beautiful face, and Lu Xun often looked at it intently.

Xu Guangping pretended not to mind and did not ask who the woman in ** was, because she knew that she was the one who accompanied Lu Xun, and it was her responsibility as a wife to take care of him.

One night in October 1936, whenever Xu Guangping wiped Lu Xun's sweat, he would hold her hand tightly, as if to grasp the breath of life.

In the early morning of the next day, Lu Xun had a premonition that he was going to say goodbye to his wife, held Xu Guangping's hand tightly, and told her to forget herself and live her own life. In the hazy eyes of Xu Guangping, Lu Xun passed away.

Xu Guangping was well aware of the righteousness, and although after Lu Xun's death, many Japanese who had been friends with him tried to persuade her to promote Sino-Japanese friendship more, but she firmly refused.

She told them that if Lu Xun was still alive, he would regret treating them as friends. In December 1936, Xu Guangping was feeding his children medicine at home when he suddenly heard the maid say: "Madam, the Japanese are here!" ”

Xu Guangping had already expected this day, and she asked the maid to take Hai Ying to a friend's house for refuge, while she stayed at home to deal with the Japanese. After the Japanese entered the room, they immediately took out a rope to tie her up, turned the room upside down, and searched out two books and periodicals and Lu Xun's diary.

Fortunately, Xu Guangping had already hidden Lu Xun's manuscript and escaped.

Xu Guangping spent the following days in the same cramped room as many prisoners, and one of them taught her his own torture experience, which made her mentally prepared.

Sure enough, in order to know Lu Xun's autographed manuscript, the Japanese army brutally whipped her, and she was beaten to the point that her skin was broken. This was followed by electrocution, in which a high-pressure electric current passed through her body, causing her to faint again and again.

However, she persevered and never let up. The Japanese soldiers had nothing to do with her, so they could only imprison her to the Wang Puppet Statistics Bureau. Wang's methods were even more cruel, they tried to slander and frame Xu Guangping whenever the Japanese military police went out to search for progressives, and detained Xu Guangping in a car to create the false impression that she had defected to the enemy.

However, their plan failed, because no one believed that Xu Guangping would really rebel.

Xu Guangping spent 76 days under the cruel torture of the Japanese army, she suffered countless electrocutions, ** became dark, and the wounds could no longer distinguish the old from the new. However, the woman persevered and did not waver in the slightest, and it was not until Uchiyama bailed her out of prison that she got back on her feet.

At the end of 1941, Shanghai became a purgatory on earth, and Xu Guangping chose to stay here because it was the place where she and Lu Xun lived together for many years and had many good memories.

At the same time, Lu Xun left behind many manuscripts during his lifetime, and if he took refuge in other places, these manuscripts would definitely be lost in large numbers on the way. Therefore, Xu Guangping believes that the more difficult the place, the more necessary it is for someone to stay.

As Lu Xun's widow, she had the responsibility to stay in Shanghai and make some contributions to the Anti-Japanese War. Therefore, she decided to restart her career and strive to be a progressive person to make greater contributions to the country and society.

Xu Guangping, who used to focus on family chores, has now become a person who is passionate about progressive careers. Without hesitation, she joined the Shanghai Women's Refugee Relief Association organized by He Xiangning, and in addition to properly rehousing the refugees, she also took to the streets to encourage everyone to collect donations for the soldiers on the front line.

In addition, Xu Guangping also vigorously promoted culture and published a large number of articles commemorating Lu Xun, which greatly stimulated the morale of the Chinese people. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Xu Guangping wrote a book of her years of experience and published it to prove the crimes of the Japanese invaders.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Xu Guangping was invited to go north and took up important positions such as the All-China Women's Federation and the China Association for the Promotion of Democracy, making great contributions to the construction of New China.

Xu Guangping joined our party in his later years and wrote a life of historical significance. However, she died of a heart attack in 1968 at the age of 70, which was heart-wrenching.

She was full of sincerity and enthusiasm for her love when she was a student, and Lu Xun was the light for her to get out of the feudal family, allowing her to see a bright future. She gave everything for love, and although she was lost in family trivialities in her married life, she later insisted on her dreams, served the country and the people, and became a determined intellectual woman.

Her love with Lu Xun is mutually fulfilling, and they are not each other's accessories. Xu Guangping was a great woman who chose to carry on her husband's legacy, stood above the interests of the family, took an unusual path, and contributed to the prosperity of her family and country.
