CES 2024 kicks off this week in Las Vegas. Hosted by the Consumer Technology Association, the event will showcase the latest advancements and gadgets in the fields of personal technology, transportation, health care, sustainability, and more. The use of AI is almost ubiquitous.

From the most interesting developments in automotive technology, to accessible wearables, to the latest smart home gadgets, there's a lot of interesting stuff at CES.

Transparent TV is coming

Consumer electronics giants LG and Samsung unveiled transparent OLED displays at the show, which will be available later this year. The 77-inch transparent OLED screen is barely visible when turned off, and can be switched between transparent mode and traditional normal TV mode with a black background.

OLED is unique in that it is an organic material that can be printed onto any surface. Printed on a piece of transparent glass, OLED image quality is obtained.

AI twins

Hollo AI has created "AI Personalization Technology" that creates your digital twin in minutes by simply uploading a photo and voice memo in the mobile app. The app will be available later this month. CEO Rex Wong said he wanted to create a technology that would help digital creators and celebrities connect with fans in a new way.

Gamepad makes a cameo appearance at Sony's press conference

Sony Honda Mobility brought some updates to the Afeela electric car, and they drove the concept car onto the stage with a PlayStation controller.

Hyundai emphasizes the future of hydrogen energy

Hyundai Motor on Monday highlighted plans to harness hydrogen energy in the future.

In addition to hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles, the possibility of further development of energy production, storage and transportation is also noted. Hyundai is working on "building a hydrogen society", including introducing a way to convert organic waste and even plastics into clean hydrogen. Hyundai also shared what it calls "software-defined vehicles" plans and wants to integrate its own large language models into the navigation system.

Samsung Hyundai has teamed up to develop automotive AI

Samsung announced that it will partner with Hyundai Motor to develop "home-to-car" and "car-to-home" services for Kia and Hyundai. This means that people will be able to use Samsung's SmartThings service to set the temperature or open the windows in their car, and you can also control the lights in your home and interact with any connected smart device while in the car. Samsung also announced a partnership with Microsoft that will have more Copilot AI features on its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy.

Biometric door locks

Smart lock technology company Lockly has unveiled a new lock with facial recognition technology that will be available this summer. In addition to facial recognition technology, the new smart lock, called Visage, will also be equipped with a biometric fingerprint sensor and a secure numeric keypad and will be compatible with Apple HomeKey and Apple Home.

The "perfect" companion for your pet?

Busy families with dogs may want to keep an eye out for a new AI robot that can accompany your pet to play, feed, and even give medicine.

At CES 2024, consumer robotics company Ogmen showcased its new Oro pet companion, an autonomous robot that can feed, medicate and even play with dogs using a ball launcher built into the chest.

Pet access control

Startup Pawport has launched an electric pet access control that allows your pet to come and go as they like while keeping other animals out. The matching collar tag will open the door when the pet approaches. In addition, there are customizable guardrails.

The product can be mounted directly onto an existing pet door frame, can be temporarily locked for a specific pet, or set a "curfew" using the Pawport app, and can be controlled remotely via compatible virtual assistants such as Amazon's Alexa and Google Assistant. Pawport's pet access control is currently available for pre-order and will be available in the second quarter of 2024.
